UK judge rules against Qatar Airways in dispute with Airbus

28 April 2022; MEMO: A British judge on Tuesday denied a bid by Qatar Airways to reinstate a jet contract cancelled by Europe's Airbus, Reuters reports.

The companies have been locked in a safety dispute for months on Europe's A350 long-haul jet. Their unprecedented bust-up widened in January when Airbus revoked a separate deal for 50 smaller A321neos that Qatar says it needs to open new routes.

Algeria completes oil refinery project

28 April 2022; MEMO: Algeria has completed work on a crude oil refining project in Hassi Messaoud, the largest oil city in the country, to pump 60,000 barrels per day. state-owned Sonatrach said today.

The statement stated that the CEO, Taoufik Hakkar, yesterday travelled to the southeastern city of Hassi Messaoud, and visited the project, which he said was now 99 per cent complete and able to process 60,000 barrels per day of crude oil.

Airbus, Qatar Airways back in court as plane row heats up

26 April 2022; MEMO: A British judge will, on Tuesday, rule whether Airbus must keep building A321neo jetliners for estranged Qatar Airways in a decision with implications for future multi-billion-dollar jet deals, as their public bust-up returns to London's High Court, Reuters reports.

Airbus revoked the A321neo deal in January in retaliation for Qatar's refusal to stop taking A350s in a separate legal and safety dispute over damage to the surface of the larger jets.

Turkey-Saudi trade expected to return to normal soon

27 April 2022; MEMO: The Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce expected the kingdom's imports from Turkiye to increase in the near future, in the latest sign of the steady improvement of relations between two of the largest Islamic countries.

Sources in the Council of Chambers of Commerce, who requested to remain anonymous, told Anadolu Agency today that the import of Turkish goods by merchants will return to normal at an accelerated rate, as soon as the official announcement of the return of relations.

Indian FM invites US semiconductor players to invest in India; promises incentives

Washington, Apr 26 (PTI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday held a meeting with representatives of the semiconductor industry of the US and invited them to make further investments in India.

The Finance Minister spoke about opportunities for companies situated in Silicon Valley and about the government of India's commitment to be a reliable player in the entire semiconductor value chain with dedicated incentive for the sector in mission mode through the Indian Semiconductor Mission.

Morocco: huge offshore oil field discovered

26 April 2022; MEMO: A huge oil field has been discovered off the coast of Morocco by British company Europa Oil & Gas, Spain's Motorpasion website has reported. The reserves in the field are valued at billions of dollars.

"The discovery is a treasure," said the website. "Its value is put at about €110 billion, which is roughly equivalent to Morocco's GDP in 2020, when it amounted to $112 billion."

India, EU decide to launch trade, technology council

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday agreed to launch an EU-India trade and technology council to address the challenges of ensuring trusted technology and security in the wake of rapid geopolitical changes.

The decision was taken during talks between Modi and von der Leyen.

Libya's Bashagha calls for oil exports to resume

25 April 2022; MEMO: Libya's Fathi Bashagha, who was appointed prime minister by the eastern-based parliament last month, has called on the residents of the Oil Crescent region to resume oil exports.

Bashagha yesterday met with representatives of the Oil Crescent Region, which extends from Tobruk in the east to the Gulf of Sidra west, and includes the largest oil fields as well as ports.
