NICOSIA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General's personal envoy on Cyprus, Jane Holl Lute, completed a new round of talks with the Cypriot community leaders on Saturday, ahead of a crucial joint meeting that the UN chief will have with them on Nov. 25.

At the meeting to be held in Berlin, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will decide whether the two sides are close enough, so as to convene a round of negotiations.

LIMASSOL /Cyprus/, October 22. /TASS/: Mass media bear special responsibility for success in the struggle against the proliferation of extremist ideologies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a message to the 15th international conference on the role of mass media in resistance to terrorism, which opened in Limassol on Tuesday.

"Media resources bear special responsibility for preventing the proliferation of extremist ideologies, calls for hatred and violence, and fake news, which undermine the stability and information security of countries," the message reads.

NICOSIA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Officers serving with the United Nations police contingent in Cyprus have been recognized for their dedicated service at a special ceremony on Friday.

At a presentation in Nicosia, 21 members of the force received their UN Medal, which is awarded by the United Nations Secretary-General "In the Service of Peace."

1 July 2019; DW: Northern Cyprus was struck by an object that appears to have been a Russian S-200 missile, Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay said Monday.

"The first assessment is that a Russian-made missile which was part of the air defense system that took place last night in the face of an air strike against Syria, completed its range and fell into our country after it missed," Ozersay wrote on social media.

George Lakkotrypis told reporters that the reworking of the production contract guaranteed Cyprus an average annual income of $ 520 million over the life of the gas field.

NICOSIA, May 18 (Xinhua): A team of international experts are making a review of anti-money laundering practices in Cyprus applied mainly by law firms, banks, accounting and audit firms, financial services firms and offices involved in the investment-for-citizenship scheme, sources with knowledge of the review said on Saturday.

The team comes from the Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism, commonly known as Moneyval.
