DHAKA, Sept 24 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh received a new batch of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines from China.

A plane of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying five million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday, Health Ministry spokesperson, Maidul Islam Prodhan, said today.

“We’ve received five million Sinopharm vaccine doses from China yesterday,” he said.

On Sept 18 and 11, Bangladesh respectively received five million and 5.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by China’s pharmaceutical Sinopharm Group.

“Travelers from Bangladesh will no longer require 10-day hotel quarantine from 22 September 2021,” Saida Muna Tasneem, Bangladesh’s high commissioner to the UK, said in a tweet early Saturday.

DHAKA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Wednesday her government is expecting to receive 60 million doses of Chinese COVID-19 vaccines in the next three months.

She made the remark while replying to a tabled question from a lawmaker during the prime minister's question-answer session in the parliament.

In line with a schedule given by Sinopharm, she said, "A total of 60 million vaccines doses -- 20 million doses each month -- will be available in the country from China till December from next month."

DHAKA, Aug 15 (Reuters) - More than two dozen Rohingya refugees were missing and feared drowned after their boat sank in the Bay of Bengal while trying to flee a remote Bangladeshi island, officials said on Sunday.

"We are devastated that reportedly many passengers, including women and children, have tragically drowned. The confirmed number is not yet known," the United Nations refugee agency said.

DHAKA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's contributions through the COVAX Facility have reflected Beijing's commitment to global anti-COVID-19 fight, Bangladesh health experts said.

The highly transmissible delta variant is driving an infection surge across Bangladesh, with around 20,000 infections and 200 deaths recorded so far in Cox’s Bazar district, the southern region bordering Myanmar where the refugee camps are located.

July 30 (Reuters) - Heavy monsoon rains triggered landslides and flash floods in refugees camps displacing thousands of Rohingya Muslims in southeastern Bangladesh this week, U.N. and other officials said on Friday, with further heavy rainfall expected.

At least six Rohingya, including three children, died in landslides and flooding while 15 Bangladeshis were killed and more than 200,000 stranded by flooding in Cox's Bazar, said Mamunur Rashid, the district administrator.
