India: Ruckus over farm laws in Haryana Assembly

Chandigarh, Nov 6 (PTI) The Haryana Assembly on Friday witnessed unruly scenes over the Centre's farm laws as soon as Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar brought a resolution thanking the Union government for introducing reforms in the agriculture sector.

Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda insisted on voting on the resolution before a discussion.

Hooda said the new laws were not in the interest of the farming community, which is opposing them.

India: Haryana govt mulls law against 'love jihad'

Chandigarh, Nov 1 (PTI) A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced his government would bring a law against "love jihad", his Haryana counterpart M L Khattar said his government is also considering legal provisions against it to ensure "the guilty cannot escape".

Citing the recent murder of a student in Faridabad's Ballabhgarh, Khattar said the incident is being linked to "love jihad", a derogatory coinage used by right-wing activists to refer to the alleged campaign of Muslims forcing Hindu girls to convert in the guise of love.

India: 2 Haryana BJP leaders term farm bills 'anti-farmer'

Chandigarh, Sep 24 (PTI) Haryana BJP leaders Parminder Singh Dhull and Rampal Majra on Thursday dubbed the Centre's farm bills "anti-farmer", claiming that the apprehensions about the minimum support price were not unfounded.

The two former legislators said many farmer outfits were protesting against the Centre's farm reforms and their voices should be heard.

India: Farmers protest against farm bills

Chandigarh, Sep 20 (PTI) Farmers in Haryana began their protest against the agriculture-related farm bills on Sunday amid elaborate security arrangements which have been made to ensure that the event passes off smoothly.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union's Haryana unit, supported by some other farmer outfits, is holding a statewide protest against the Centre's farm bills during which protesters will block roads for three hours from 12 pm to 3 pm.

The farmers are also joined by the 'arhitiyas' or commission agents during their protest.

India: JJP apologises for lathicharge on farmers in Haryana

Chandigarh, Sep 17 (PTI) Jannayak Janta Party leader Digvijay Singh Chautala on Thursday apologised for the lathicharge on farmers in Kurukshetra's Pipli last week, saying if any of them was hit, they feel it was the family of the late Devi Lal.

Digvijay Chautala, whose party is a coalition partner of the BJP in the state, is the great grandson of the former deputy prime minister.

Earlier, his elder brother and Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala had condemned the lathicharge on farmers during a protest on September 10.

India: Haryana minister Ranjeet Singh tests COVID positive

Chandigarh, Aug 29 (PTI) Haryana Power Minister Ranjeet Singh said on Saturday that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Singh, who is an Independent MLA supporting the BJP-JJP government, had got his test done just before the one-day Assembly session on Wednesday and his report returned negative. However, he developed symptoms after the session and got himself tested again.

"I got my COVID test done again and the report came positive," the cabinet minister tweeted. "My health is alright, but I under home quarantined on the advice of doctors."

India: Haryana agriculture minister tests positive for COVID-19

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (PTI) Haryana Agriculture Minister J P Dalal has tested positive for COVID-19, he said in a tweet on Wednesday, making him the eighth legislator of the ruling BJP in the state to contract the infection.

Dalal said he got himself tested three days ago and the report returned negative. However, he got one more test conducted later, in which he tested positive.

The minister said that he has isolated himself at home and appealed to all those who had come in his contact to get themselves examined.

India: Haryana govt to open 1,000 play schools

Chandigarh, Jul 15 (PTI) The Haryana government is all set to open 1,000 playway schools to provide quality education and learning among children aged between three to six years.

The announcement to open these schools was made in this year's Budget and a formal decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday.

Education Minister Kanwar Pal was also present in the meeting, an official statement said.

India: Locust clouds over Gururgram, likely to spare Delhi

Gurugram/New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) The skies over many parts of Gurugram turned dark on Saturday as swarms of locusts descended on the town, but the migratory pests are likely to spare the national capital for now, officials said.

The dark cloud of locusts, spread across two kilometres, crossed the suburban city, touched the Delhi-Gurugram border but did not enter Delhi.

"The swarms moved from west to east. They entered Gurugram around 11.30 am," K L Gurjar of the Locust Warning Organisation, Ministry of Agriculture, told PTI.

India: Rising fuel prices will have cascading effect: Hooda

Chandigarh, Jun 25 (PTI) Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday flayed the Centre over the rising fuel prices, saying it is bound to have a cascading effect and burden common people.

He said the diesel and petrol prices have been going up daily for over two weeks now and the situation has come to a point where diesel and petrol prices are almost at par now.

He said the burden of the fuel price hike has fallen on common people and farmers, whose lives have already been adversely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
