FPIs pull out Rs 929 cr from Indian mkts so far this month

New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI) Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have withdrawn a net Rs 929 crore from Indian markets so far this month amid concerns over rising COVID-19 cases denting the economic recovery.

The reversal of buying trend came after FPIs invested Rs 17,304 crore in March, Rs 23,663 crore in February and Rs 14,649 crore in January.

India: Man gets 1 year in jail in umbai for molesting teen girl

Mumbai, Apr 11 (PTI) A 20-year-old man was sentenced to one year imprisonment by a special POCSO court in Mumbai for molesting a teen girl last year.

Special Judge Bharti Kale, in her order on April 7, the detailed copy of which was made available on Saturday, convicted the man under section 354 (molestation) of the IPC and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for winking and making flying kiss gestures at a 14-year-old girl.

India: 2 more Maha ministers will have to quit in 15 days: BJP

Mumbai, Apr 8 (PTI) Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil on Thursday claimed two more state ministers will have to resign in 15 days and that the state was a "fit case for President's rule".

His remarks came a day after suspended cop Sachin Waze in a letter claimed former state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had demanded Rs 2 crore from him to continue his service in the Mumbai police and another minister Anil Parab asked him to collect money from contractors.

India: Former "encounter specialist" cop appears before NIA for 2nd day

Mumbai, Apr 8 (PTI) Former police officer Pradeep Sharma on Thursday appeared before the NIA for the second day in connection with the case of an explosives-laden SUV found near industrialist's Mukesh Ambani residence and the death of businessman Mansukh Hiran, an official said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had summoned the "encounter specialist" cop to record his statement.

Sharma reached the NIA office in south Mumbai around 1 pm, the official said.

India: HC allows China's ByteDance, owner of TikTok, to operate Indian bank accounts

Mumbai, Apr 6 (PTI) The Bombay High Court on Tuesday permitted Chinese company ByteDance to operate its Indian bank accounts, that had been frozen by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) authorities over alleged tax evasion, after depositing a sum of Rs 78.91 crore in a state-run bank.

A bench of Justices SP Deshmukh and Abhay Ahuja directed ByteDance to deposit Rs 78.91 crore in any nationalised bank towards the demand raised by the GST authorities and said the company could operate its other Indian bank accounts and utilise the remaining funds.

India: RBI keeps interests rates unchanged

Mumbai, Apr 7 (PTI) Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday expectedly left interest rates unchanged and maintained an accommodative stance as the economy faces a renewed threat to growth due to the resurgence of coronavirus cases.

The central bank kept the benchmark repurchase rate unchanged at 4 per cent and maintained accommodative policy stance to support growth.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) kept its estimate for economic growth unchanged at 10.5 per cent for the current fiscal.

India: Local journalist RTI activist kidnapped, killed in Ahmednagar

Pune, Apr 7 (PTI) A 49-year-old journalist of a local weekly was allegedly kidnapped and killed in Rahuri town of Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, police said on Wednesday.

Rohidas Datir was allegedly abducted from the College Road area where he was travelling on his two-wheeler on Tuesday afternoon and his body bearing multiple injury marks was found in the same locality late at night, sub-inspector Ganesh Shelke of Rahuri police station said.

The victim used to run a weekly in Rahuri and was also an RTI activist, the official said.

India: Investors' wealth tumbles over Rs 4.54 lakh cr as markets crash

New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) Investors' wealth tumbled over Rs 4.54 lakh crore in morning trade on Monday as markets crashed amid a sharp spike in coronavirus cases in the country.

The 30-share BSE benchmark index plummeted 1,449.03 points to 48,580.80 in morning trade.

Following this, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies dived Rs 4,54,987.72 crore to Rs 2,02,71,414.07 crore.

India: Case against 1,011 people on 'Sandal yatra' for breaking Covid rules

Buldhana, Apr 4 (PTI) Police have registered a case against 1,011 people for allegedly violating COVID-19 prevention rules by attending a religious gathering in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, an official said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Friday when the people took out the annual 'Sandal yatra' to the shrine of Sailani Baba here, despite such gatherings not being allowed due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Ramesh Barkate said.
