Indian Polls: EC issues notice to BJP's Sunny Deol for 'violating' poll code

Chandigarh, May 18 (PTI) The Election Commission has issued a notice to BJP candidate from Gurdaspur Sunny Deol for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

Poll officials took serious note of a public meeting held by Deol in Pathankot on Friday night, after the silent period came in force.

India: Three minors raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 18 (PTI) Three minor girls were raped in different parts of Rajasthan, including one in Alwar where the family members of the victim lynched one of the three accused, the police said on Saturday.

Aged around 15 years, the girl was allegedly gang raped by three minors on May 14 in Hasraura village under Sadar Police Station of Alwar where the girl had gone to attend a relative's marriage.

Ludhiana, May 18 (PTI) As Gurjal Kaur, 75, stares blankly at the dirty, moldering wall of her house, her nightmarish memories of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots turn into fresh bleeding wounds.

With Punjab going to polls on Sunday, Congress leader Sam Pitroda's flippant remark that "1984 hua to hua" and the BJP's relentless offensive over it has brought the anti-Sikh riots back into the political discourse.

The survivors of the riots in the CRPF colony of Ludhiana claim that successive Congress governments delayed justice to the affected families.

India: Naxal terrorist woman with Rs 5 lakh bounty held in C'garh

Dantewada, May 18 (PTI) A 26-year-old naxal, carrying Rs five lakh reward for her alleged involvement in various violent incidents, Saturday surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said.

The cadre, Nande Mandavi alias Lali, is a member of the Kerlapal Area Committee of Maoists, said Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava.

Police had input that she would be visiting Dantewada district hospital for treatment and proceeded to arrest her, he said.

India: Naidu meets Akhilesh, will call on Mayawati next

Lucknow, May 18 (PTI) TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu Saturday met Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav here and was set to call on Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati later, continuing his efforts to put together a coalition to form the next government at the Centre.

He reached the state capital after meetings in New Delhi with Congress president Rahul Gandhi, CPI leaders G Sudhakar Reddy and D Raja, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and LJD leader Sharad Yadav.

India: 26 Maha dams hit zero water storage level as on May 18

Mumbai, May 18 (PTI) In a far cry from last year's situation, 26 reservoirs in Maharashtra have reached "zero storage" as on May 18, according to statistics put out by the Water Conservation department of the state government.

The department's website informed that water storage in Aurangabad Division, which comprises Aurangabad, Beed, Hingoli, Parbhani and Osmanabad districts, was 0.43 per cent as against 23.44 per cent at the same time last year.

India: I will be assassinated by BJP like Indira Gandhi: Kejriwal

New Delhi, May 18 (PTI) Alleging that the BJP was after his life, Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal Saturday claimed that he will be assassinated like former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by his personal security officer.

"The BJP would get me murdered by my own PSO (Personal Security Officer) one day like Indira Gandhi. My own security officers report to BJP," Kejriwal told a news channel in Punjab.

"The BJP is after my life, they will murder me one day," he added.

Modi appears in 1st conference in 5 years, didn’t answer any question

On the last day of Indian LS election campaign, PM Narendra Modi appeared in the first press conference in 5 years of his Prime Ministership, which is being claimed by media as a ‘guest appearance’, because he did not answer any questions, passing them over to Amit Shah to answer.

In the press conference organised by BJP President, when asked a direct question, Modi passed it to BJP President Amit Shah saying, “President is everything for us”.

Shah Rukh Khan, David Letterman come together for Netflix special

Mumbai, May 17 (PTI) Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and veteran talk show host David Letterman have collaborated for a Netflix stand-alone special.

As per the press release issued by the streaming service, the show will be all about in-depth conversations, for which Letterman is renowned, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humour.

The 53-year-old Indian star said he was honoured to share his story with Letterman.
