New Delhi, April 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear on April 15 a plea challenging the Election Commission's ban on the release of biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A bench headed by Chief Justice said it will hear the plea filed by producers of the biopic.

The poll panel had on Wednesday banned the screening of the biopic during poll period, saying any such film that subserves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in the electronic media.

NEW DELHI (AP) — The Dalai Lama said he felt “normal, almost normal” as he left the New Delhi hospital where he had been treated for a chest infection.

The 83-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader looked pale but strong and spoke cheerfully to The Associated Press as he walked out of the building after being discharged Friday morning. He had been hospitalized on Tuesday after coming to the capital to consult with doctors.

Ranchi, Apr 10 (PTI) Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Ranchi Lok Sabha seat Ramtahal Chaudhary Wednesday resigned from the party after he was denied a ticket to contest for a sixth time from the constituency.

Chaudhary told a news conference that he would contest as an Independent candidate from the Ranchi Lok Sabha seat.

"I have resigned from the partys primary membership and sent the letter to Jharkhand unit president Laxman Gilua.

Coimbatore, Apr 10 (PTI) A 35-year old man was arrested Wednesday on the charge of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter for the last few months, police said.

The assault came to light after the nine-year old girl narrated the incident to her class teacher who complained to the all-woman police in Pollachi, 40 km from here.

A case was registered and the accused daily wage labourer was arrested, the police said.

Gadchiroli, Apr 10 (PTI) A CRPF jawan escorting a polling party was injured in an IED blast in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra Wednesday, a day ahead of voting for the Lok Sabha elections.

The incident comes a day after a BJP MLA and four security personnel were killed in a Naxal attack in Dantewada district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

Agra (UP), Apr 10 (PTI) BJP MLA from Agra East constituency Jagan Prasad Garg died of heart attack at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He was 65.

Garg, , a five-time MLA, had been unwell for the past two days, his family members said.

Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders paid their tributes to Garg.

A popular leader of the Vaishya community, Garg represented the Agra East constituency in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

Tarn Taran, Apr 10 (PTI) Pages of a holy Sikh book (Gutka Sahib) were allegedly found torn from a non-functional drain in Panjwar village here, the police said.

An FIR was registered against unknown persons under Section 295 of the IPC for hurting religious sentiments at the Chabbal Police Station, SHO Baljit Singh said.

A probe has been initiated and some locals have been questioned, Singh added.

Panjwar was a hotbed of terror activities in the late nineties when insurgency was at its peak in Punjab.

New Delhi, Apr 10 (PTI) A woman was allegedly raped by a staffer of Rashtrapati Bhavan who promised to marry her but later backtracked, police said Wednesday.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that the man established physical relationship with her, Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma said.

Kochi, Apr 11 (PTI) The Kerala High Court Thursday granted conditional bail to the BJP's candidate for Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency, Prakash Babu, arrested in a case related to an alleged attack on a woman devotee in Sabarimala temple last November.

He was sent to jail on March 28 by a court in Ranni in Pathanamthitta district in connection with the case.

Granting bail to Babu, Justice Alexander Thomas directed him to appear before the investigating officer on the second and fourth Saturdays every month after the Lok Sabha elections for four months.
