India: 5 yr old girl raped by 12 yr old boy

Shahjahanpur (UP), Nov 22 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 12-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district here, police said Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday in a village under Kalan police station limits, they said.

Police station in-charge Harendra Singh Tomar said the girl was playing outside her residence when the accused allegedly lured her to his house and raped her.

The girl has been sent for a medical examination and investigation is underway, he said, adding that the accused is absconding.

Indian Cyclone Gaja: TN govt seeks Rs 15,000 cr aid from Centre

Chennai, Nov 22 (PTI) The Tamil Nadu government Thursday sought about Rs 15,000 crore as central assistance towards relief and rehabilitation activities in Cyclone Gaja affected districts in the state.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi with a plea for central assistance for various sectors in the affected districts, the state government said here.

Jared Kushner to attend a wedding in Jaisalmer, India

Jaipur, Nov 22 (PTI) US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is likely to reach Jaisalmer Thursday to attend a wedding, officials said.

There was no official confirmation about the visit of Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, to the city, they said.

"We have confirmation of the visit of the US president's son-in-law to Jaisalmer. There is no official communication about Ivanka Trump's schedule yet," Jaisalmer District Collector O P Kasera told PTI.

He said he was here to attend a wedding.

Girl attempts suicide

KANPUR: A case of the suicide attempt by a girl inmate of the shelter home situated in Swaroop Nagar area here has come to light.

The girl, from Farrukhabad district, brought to the home recently, tried to commit suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan on November 16. But the fellow residents were able to rescue her. She was later admitted at the Hallet hospital in an unconscious state.

India: 2264 women reported missing in Maha during 2013-18

Mumbai, Nov 21 (PTI) As many as 2264 women are reported missing in Maharashtra in the last five years, the state Legislative Assembly has been told.

In a written reply, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who holds Home portfolio, said the missing women include 298 minor girls.

A question was submitted by ruling Bhartiya Janata Party's (BJP's) Mangal Prabhat Lodha and others.

India: 76.35 per cent voting in Chhattisgarh Assembly polls

Raipur, Nov 21 (PTI) Voter turnout of 76.35 per cent was recorded in the Chhattisgarh Assembly election which concluded Tuesday, poll authorities said.

It was a little less than the previous 2013 polls when 77.40 per cent of voters had exercised their franchise.

The election to the 90-member Assembly was held in two phases -- November 12 and 20.

The incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in power for the last 15 years.

India: Minor raped in Ghaziabad, accused held

Ghaziabad, Nov 21 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Shalimar Garden colony here, following which the accused was arrested, police said Wednesday.

The incident took place 10 days ago, they said, adding that the matter came to light after the girl's mother approached police Tuesday.

PDP, NC, Cong have agreed to an alliance to form govt in J&K

Srinagar, Nov 21 (PTI) The PDP, National Conference and Congress have agreed to join hands to form a new government in Jammu and Kashmir, senior PDP leader Altaf Bukhari said here on Wednesday.

The businessman-turned-politician said around 60 MLAs were supporting the proposed alliance in the 87-member House.

"The leaders have agreed to form an alliance. The PDP, NC, Congress at the leadership level have agreed. What are the contours of the alliance, it has not come down to MLAs. I am an MLA and I have been told only this much," Bukhari told reporters here.
