Indian Polls: EC directs Ram Gopal Varma not to release NTR biopic

Amaravati, Apr 30 (PTI) The Election Commission Tuesday directed film maker Ramgopal Varma Tuesday not to release 'Laxmi's NTR', the biopic based on the life of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N T Rama Rao RPT Rao, reiterating its April 10 order not to screen it and another movie till further orders.

The biopic was planned to be released on May 1.

Indian Polls: Fresh campaigning ban on Azam Khan

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Election Commission Tuesday imposed a fresh ban on Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan from campaigning for 48 hours for his provocative speeches against the local poll machinery and also making inflammatory communal remarks.

This is the second time this month that the EC has imposed a ban on him. The fresh ban will come into force at 6.00 AM Wednesday.

India: SC acquits 15 persons in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Supreme Court Tuesday acquitted 15 persons who were awarded five-year jail terms by the Delhi High Court for offences of rioting, burning houses and violation of curfew during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna allowed five appeals filed by 15 convicts challenging the November 28, 2018, verdict of the high court.

Indian Polls: EC gives clean chit to PM Modi for Wardha speech

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Election Commission Tuesday gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his speech in Wardha in which he had slammed Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for contesting from Wayanad and had "indicated" that the Kerala constituency had more voters from the minority community.

India: CBI raids YSR Congress candidate in loan default case

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) The CBI on Tuesday searched the residences and offices of YSR Congress candidate from Narsapuram, K Raghurama Krishnam Raju, for alleged loan default of over Rs 947 crore, agency officials said.

Raju, who returned to YSR Congress in March, has contested this Lok Sabha election from Narsapuram constituency in Andhra Pradesh.

India: Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka HCs get new CJs

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) Chief justices were on Tuesday appointed to the high courts of Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, the Law Ministry has said.

Justice Shripathi Ravindra, a judge of the Delhi High Court was elevated as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.

Justice P Ramachandran Menon of the Kerala High Court has been elevated as chief justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Justice Abhay S Oka, a judge of the Bombay High Court has been appointed as chief justice of the Karnataka High Court, the ministry said in separate notifications.

India: SC dismisses curative petition for Kohinoor diamond

New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) The Supreme Court has given the legal burial to a case which had sought judicial intervention to reclaim the 108-carat Kohinoor diamond from the United Kingdom.

A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi dismissed a curative petition seeking to re-examine its 2017 verdict in which it had said that it cannot pass order for reclaiming Kohinoor diamond from the UK or to stop it from being auctioned.

India: Man held for molesting minor in northwest Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) A six-year-old girl was allegedly molested by her neighbour in northwest Delhi, police said Monday.

The girl, a Class II student, was sent by the accused on Sunday to the grocery shop in Adarsh Nagar area. When she returned, he shut the door and started touching her inappropriately, the police said.

Indian Polls: Cong moves EC demanding action against PM

New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) The Congress on Monday urged the Election Commission to take urgent action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly violating the model code by raising the matters of Balakot air strike and Pulwama terror attack in his poll campaign.

A delegation of Congress leaders led by its chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala and Abhishek Singhvi met top Election Commission officials and made a fresh complaint against Modi demanding urgent action against him.
