Russia: Putin calls on all sides of conflict in Israel to minimize damage to civilians

MOSCOW, October 10. /TASS/: All sides in the conflict in Israel should strive to reduce damage to civilians to zero, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

"In any event, no matter what happens there, I know that both your position, distinguished Mr. Prime Minister, and our position is that the damage to the civilian population should be minimized and reduced to zero. And we call on all conflicting sides to do so," Putin said.

He suggested discussing this and other issues during the talks.

Ukraine's Zelenskiy hails 'good news' on air defence after talks in Romania

Oct 10 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday he had "good news" on artillery and air defence supplies after talks with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in Bucharest, but gave no details.

"My main accent today was air defence. And I'm glad that Ukraine was heard by the Romanian side," Zelenskiy, who has been seeking more arms to defend Ukraine against Russia's invasion, told a joint press conference in the Romanian capital.

Finland says 'outside activity' likely damaged gas pipeline, telecoms cable

HELSINKI, Oct 10 (Reuters) - A subsea gas pipeline and a telecommunications cable connecting Finland and Estonia under the Baltic Sea have been damaged in what may have been a deliberate act, the Finnish government said on Tuesday.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO was sharing its information over the damage and stands ready to support the allies concerned. Finland joined the military alliance in April, while Estonia has been a member since 2004.

Russian FM lashes out at NATO's expansionism

MOSCOW, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has criticized expansionism of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its attempt to extend footprints to the entire Eastern Hemisphere.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia will move to revoke the ratification of a global nuclear test ban to put itself on par with the United States but will only resume nuclear tests if Washington does it first, a senior Russian diplomat said Tuesday.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters that Moscow will rescind the ratification of the nuclear test ban treaty to “mirror” the action by the U.S. He added that if the U.S. conducts a nuclear test, “we will be forced to mirror that as well.”

Wall Street Journal reporter loses appeal and will stay in a Russian jail at least through November

MOSCOW (AP) — Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich lost an appeal Tuesday to be released from jail on espionage charges, meaning he will remain behind bars at least through Nov. 30.

Gershkovich, 31, had a mostly blank expression as he appeared in the defendant’s glass cage in Moscow City Court in blue shirt, T-shirt and jeans. He marked six months in custody on Sept. 29.
