Iran says US blocking diplomacy with new sanctions

25 June 2019; AFP: Iran said Tuesday new US sanctions against its leaders marked the end of diplomacy with Washington, after President Donald Trump threatened the country with "obliteration".

Trump imposed new sanctions Monday against Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top military chiefs, further raising the stakes in an escalating regional standoff.

Iran says EU lacks determination to implement nuke deal

TEHRAN, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Monday that the Europeans lack resolve and power to implement their commitments pertaining to the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Press TV has reported.

"Repeated delays with regard to the (implementation) of INSTEX (Europe's Instrument In Support Of Trade Exchanges) shows that Europeans neither have the power nor determination to implement their commitments" under the JCPOA to secure Iran's economic interests, Zarif said.

UAE calls for dialogue, ending escalation with Iran

Yemen's Houthi rebels strike Saudi airport

24 June 2019; DW: Yemen's Houthi rebels attacked Abha airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia, killing one person and injuring seven others, the kingdom's official media outlet SPA said Sunday.

Houthi rebels said earlier that they had launched drone attacks on airports in Abha and Jizan, both near the border with Yemen. Saudi media made no mention of an attack in Jizan. 

Palestinians to get $100 million/month Arab cash after rejecting US investment plan

24 June 2019; DW: Arab countries have reaffirmed a pledge to pay $100 million a month to the Palestinian Authority. The move comes a day after the Palestinians rejected a US investment plan to boost their economy.

Arab finance ministers meeting in Cairo have renewed a promise to beef up the Palestinian Authority's (PA) budget to the tune of $100 million (€88 million) a month.

Pompeo arrives in Saudi Arabia as Iran threatens US drones

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived Monday in Saudi Arabia in a hastily arranged visit amid mounting tensions between Washington and Tehran as Iran’s navy chief warned Iranian forces wouldn’t hesitate to shoot down more U.S. surveillance drones from their skies.

The downing of the drone, valued at more than $100 million, saw the United States pull back from the brink of a military strike on Iran after President Donald Trump last week called off strikes in retaliation.

14 IS militants killed in northern Iraq

BAGHDAD, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) backed by the U.S.-led coalition aircraft on Monday killed 14 Islamic State (IS) militants in an operation in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk, the Iraqi military said.

A force from the CTS in coordination with the international coalition aircraft conducted an operation to hunt down IS remnants in south of the provincial capital city of Kirkuk, some 250 km north of Baghdad, the media office of the Joint Operations Command said in a statement.

Suspension of food aid puts thousands of Yemenis at risk of starvation

ADEN, Yemen, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The UN World Food Program (WFP) has begun to partially suspend food assistance operations to areas of war-torn Yemen under the control of Houthi rebels, putting thousands of hungry people at risk of starvation.

The UN agency, which is feeding more than 10 million people across Yemen, repeatedly complained of some "obstructive and uncooperative" Houthi leaders who interfered with food distribution in the country's northern areas.

Iran says U.S. cyber attacks on rocket launchers "failed attempt"

TEHRAN, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The recent U.S. cyber attacks against Iranian missile control systems were failed to cause problems for Iran, Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi tweeted on Monday.

"They (the American) try hard, but they haven't yet carried out a successful attack," Jahromi said.

Western media reported on Saturday that the Pentagon launched a cyber attack on Iranian rocket launch systems which disabled the military machinery.
