Conservation plan highlights Arabs’ fraught ties to Israel

HILF, Israel (AP) — Ayoub Rumeihat opened his palms to the sky in prayer as he stood among tombstones for Bedouins killed in action while serving the state of Israel.

Finishing the holy words, he gazed at the distant Mediterranean Sea across a valley full of olives and oak where his community has grazed goats for generations.

Rumeihat says the Bedouins, celebrated by the Israeli military for their knowledge of the land, fear the government now seeks to sever their ties to that same piece of earth.

EU opens office in gas-rich Qatar amid energy crisis

07 Sep 2022; MEMO: The European Union opened an office in Qatar on Wednesday, in a sign of the Gulf State's growing influence in solving the international energy crisis, local Qatari media reports.

According to the report, EU Council President, Charles Michel, was to meet the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and other top officials in Doha later in the day.

Israeli chief of staff determines Israel's open-fire policies - not the US

08 Sep 2022; MEMO: Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said yesterday that it is the Israeli army, not the US, which determines Israel's open-fire policies, Axios reported.

"IDF's chief of the general staff, and he alone, determines, and will continue to determine the rules of engagement in accordance with our operational needs and values of the IDF," Gantz said, according to the news site.

Iran 'will not cross red lines' for nuclear deal

08 Sep 2022; MEMO: Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has affirmed that his country "will not cross its red lines at the nuclear level." The minister's confirmation follows accusations by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that "Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium exceeds 19 times the permissible limit." The agency said that it is not in a position to confirm that Iran's nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful.

Israeli raids on airport amount to a 'war crime'; Syria Foreign Ministry

07 Sep 2022; MEMO: Syria's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday it considered Israeli recent air strikes on civilian infrastructure to be a war crime, Reuters reports.

A Foreign Ministry statement specifically referred to Israeli air raids on Tuesday on Aleppo International Airport which damaged the runway and put the site out of service for the second time in a week.

Egypt's withdrawal from Arab League meeting contradicts charter, Libya minister says

07 Sep 2022; MEMO: Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush said yesterday that Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry's withdrawal from the opening of an Arab ministerial meeting, which she chaired, contradicts the charter of the League of Arab States.

This came in a short press conference that Mangoush, who represents the National Unity Government, held at the Arab League's headquarters in Cairo after presiding over the foreign ministers' meeting from which the Egyptian delegation had withdrawn.

Palestine: Israeli forces kill another Palestinian minor in occupied West Bank

08 Sep 2022; MEMO: The Israeli occupation forces shot dead another Palestinian minor this morning near the village of Beitin, to the east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the young Palestinian as Haitham Hani Mubarak, 17. He was shot and killed during an Israeli raid of the Palestinian village.

Huawei holds tech exchange meeting in Kuwait to promote cooperation

KUWAIT CITY, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tech firm Huawei on Tuesday held an alumni meeting for its information and communication technology (ICT) training program to enhance skills of Kuwaiti young talents and promote sci-tech exchange between the two countries.

During the event, participants of the 2022 "Seeds for the Future" training program presented their projects, with the top three students winning awards for their innovations.
