Iranian president says Iran's economy grows despite U.S. sanctions

Rouhani

TEHRAN, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Despite the worst sanctions by the United States, Iran's economy has been growing in the current Iranian calendar year which ends on March 20, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday.

The Iranian government has been able to manage the country without oil money due to the U.S. sanctions on the Iranian people and economy, including the oil industry, Rouhani said at a cabinet meeting.

Iran has launched huge projects in the current Iranian year, reduced the inflation rate, and continued the upward trend of economic growth, "which was a slap on the face of the United States," Rouhani said.

Iran's financial, energy, transportation and industrial sectors have been under unprecedented U.S. sanctions reimposed since May 2018 following Washington's withdrawal from the landmark Iranian nuclear deal.
