JAKARTA, March 31 (NNN-Bernama) — Another component of the black box of the Sriwijaya Air aircraft that crashed on Jan 9, the ‘Cockpit Voice Recorder’ (CVR), was found by the Indonesian authorities on Tuesday.
Indonesia’s Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi in a press conference today said the CVR was found on the seabed near Laki Island, in the waters of the Thousand Islands where the plane crashed.
It was found not far from where another black box component, the ‘Flight Data Recorder (FDR)’ found on Jan 12.
“Search teams from Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and the Indonesian army found the CVR at 8.05 last night. This discovery will help to further complete the investigation process into the accident,” he told a press conference at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) 2, here.
The Boeing 737-500 Sriwijaya Air flight from Jakarta to Pontianak, carrying 62 passengers including 12 crew members, lost contact with the control tower shortly after take-off and crashed into the sea.
According to Budi Karya, so far the search teams have identified 59 of the 62 victims who died through DNA tests, ‘antemortem’ and ‘postmortem’ examinations, on the body parts that have been found.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
