MAHMUD-E-RAQI, Afghanistan, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Six civilians have been confirmed dead as a mortar mine struck residential area in the northeastern Kapisa province on Saturday, provincial police spokesman Shaeq Shurash said Sunday.

Blaming the Taliban militants for the attack, the official asserted that the "Taliban rebels fired the mortar mine on Saturday afternoon which struck a residential area in Anarjoi village of Tagab district," killing six and injuring 10 others, all civilians.

Taliban militants who have intensified activities since the start of the U.S.-led forces withdrawal from Afghanistan on May 1 haven't made comment.
