RAMALLAH, Feb 25 (NNN-WAFA) – A Palestinian man succumbed to the wounds he sustained, from clashes with Israeli soldiers, two weeks ago, in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian health ministry said.

Mohamed Abu Sabbah, 30, was critically wounded two weeks ago by Israeli soldiers, in the Jenin refugee camp, adjacent to the city, the ministry said in a statement.

Since the start of 2023, 63 Palestinians have been killed, during raids by Israeli soldiers, in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, it added.

Meanwhile, a general strike was staged in the Palestinian territories, mainly in most of the West Bank cities and towns, in protest against the killing of 11 Palestinians and wounding of 102 others, during an Israeli raid on the city of Nablus on Wednesday.

The Israeli military said, its soldiers returned fire after coming under armed attack during an operation, to detain Palestinian militants suspected of planning attacks on Israel.

The general strike, in which banks, shops, universities, and public and private schools were closed, was called upon by the national and Islamic factions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Nasr Abu Jaish, head of the factions coordination committee in Nablus, said, the strike is “a means of protesting the horrible massacre committed by the Israeli army in Nablus.”

The Israeli operation in Nablus came, at a time when the United States contacted the Palestinian and Israeli sides, to reduce tension in the West Bank.

“The contacts that took place before the Nablus crime, completely contradict the results of the Israeli government’s policy,” said Mahmoud Al-Aloul, deputy chairman of the Fatah movement.

Saleh Raafat, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, accused the current U.S. government, like its predecessors, of providing “all forms of support to Israel,” adding, Palestinians should not bet on it, to exert any pressure on Israel.
