BAKU, March 3 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) will create a high-level panel for global recovery from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, announced the head of state of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
The initiative was communicated at the inauguration of a summit meeting of the NAM contact group for counteracting the health crisis created by the disease.
The ruler called on the members of the movement to begin consultations for the establishment of this panel and to strengthen efforts to adjust the goals established in the Sustainable Development Goals agreed on by the United Nations.
In this line, he highlighted, the work of the movement in favor of the demand for free and universal access to vaccines, an issue which demonstrates the influence and capability of the group.
Aliyev also called for strengthening South-South cooperation and defending the principles of sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit of the countries, based on “their own needs and not imposed” by others.
In particular, he warned about the assistance that small island states require in front of the risks they face due to climate change and the needs to work for the recovery from the pandemic.
