HAVANA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- China will assume greater responsibilities with an aim to make more contributions to the improvement of global governance, China's Ambassador to Cuba Chen Xi said on Monday.
"We are aware of our responsibility to contribute to a new world order, just and orderly global governance," the diplomat said in a conference with experts and academics from Cuba's Center for International Policy Research (CIPI). "This is a fundamental principle for Chinese diplomacy."
Chen said that China intends to actively participate in the reform and development of the new global system, and advocates for greater democracy and law in international relations.
According to Chen, China is dedicated to supporting the United Nations to play an active role and encouraging other developing nations to increase their representation and voice in global affairs.
The diplomat said China would continue to follow the path of peaceful development and foster cooperation in search of shared benefits.
"China will work to strengthen unity and cooperation with other countries in order to create a network of comprehensive, diverse and multidimensional global partners," said Chen.
According to the ambassador, China will also uphold the defense of the international system with multilateralism as a premise.
In this sense, said the diplomat, it's important to maintain good relations with developed nations while enhancing links with developing states.
Citing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as the embodiment of China's contributions to the world, he said the BRI's primary goal of interconnecting the world has received widespread acceptance in the international community and already yielded tangible results.
"The cooperation of the Belt and Road Initiative is a new path of state-to-state relations based on dialogue instead of confrontation, partnership rather than alliances and mutual learning and enrichment," said Chen.
The initiative supports a multilateral trading system and embraces more "open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial" economic globalization, he said.
