Airline group predicts another record for summer travel

The airline industry’s U.S. trade group is predicting another record for summer travel.

Airlines for America forecast Tuesday that 257.4 million people will fly on U.S. carriers between June 1 and Aug. 31.

That’s a 3.4% increase over last summer, and it works out to about 2.8 million travelers a day.

The trade group says airlines are adding 111,000 seats per day, more than the predicted 93,000 increase in daily passengers.

India: Fire erupts at tannery in Chakeri area

Kanpur: Sudden eruption of fire flares in a tannery of Chakeri area created panic among the labourers working there on Tuesday morning. 

According to the available reports, a tannery situated at Shivgodavri area of Chakeri caught fire suddenly. The labourers started running out in panic. The rising flares also caused fear. 

The police and the Fire Brigade were immediately informed of the fire. The fire tender doused the erupting fire. 

The tannery owner said that the damage worth Rs one lakh has been effected. The timely dousing of the fire saved heavy losses. 

Prosecutor: Ex-NFL player raped homeless woman, 2 others

VISTA, California (AP) — Kellen Winslow Jr., the son of a pro football star who himself earned over $40 million in an injury plagued NFL career, “took what he wanted,” including raping a 54-year-old hitchhiker and a 59-year-old homeless woman, prosecutors said Monday.

Meanwhile defense lawyers argued the sex was consensual and asked jurors not to judge the married father for his “cheating ways.”

India: Woman raped by occultist in UP

Shahjahanpur, May 21 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by an occultist in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Samastipur village under Madnapur police station area on Sunday, they said.

On the pretext of curing the woman of some ailment, the occultist, identified as Pramod, took her into the jungle after sending her husband away. He allegedly raped her there, Madnapur police station in-charge Mohd Kasim said.

11 IS militants killed in operation in central Iraq

BAGHDAD, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi security forces killed 11 Islamic State (IS) militants in an operation in Iraq's central province of Salahudin, the Iraqi military said on Tuesday.

A joint force from the Iraqi army, provincial police and paramilitary Hashd Shaabi units conducted an operation to clear a desert area in Salahudin province from IS militants, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in a statement.

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — A prominent rights group in Indian-controlled Kashmir is advocating for the United Nations to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate what it calls the endemic use of torture by government forces who have faced a decades-long anti-India uprising in the disputed region.

The Jammu-Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society on Monday released a detailed report saying India is using torture as a “matter of policy” and “instrument of control” in Kashmir, where rebels have fought Indian rule since 1989.

Swedish prosecutors file application for WikiLeaks founder’s arrest

STOCKHOLM, May 20. /TASS/: Swedish prosecutors have submitted an application to court for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s arrest, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement.

"Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Eva-Marie Persson has today submitted an application for a detention order to Uppsala District Court, in which she requests the court to detain Julian Assange in his absence," the report says.

Saudis say they will defend themselves, as Trump warns Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, warned Iran that it will face destruction if it seeks a fight, while Iranian officials said their country isn’t looking for war. Trump spoke after a rocket hit near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
