US teen likely killed herself before manhunt

DENVER (AP) — A Colorado undersheriff who led the search for a Florida teenager whose actions prompted tightened security at Columbine High School says she likely killed herself before police launched a massive manhunt.

Clear Creek County Undersheriff Bruce Snelling tells The Denver Post that 18-year-old Sol Pais likely killed herself Monday evening. Her body was found in the snowy foothills west of Denver on Wednesday.

Snelling says, “The logical likelihood was she was here to end her journey.”

India: BJP conspiring to sell off Chilika lake

Bhubaneswar, Apr 19 (PTI) BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday accused the BJP of conspiring to sell off the Chilika lake and claimed that falsehood is the saffron party's biggest asset.

Describing BJP leaders as "seasonal birds", Patnaik said these leaders do not visit the state during calamities or when people are in trouble.

Indian Polls: No vote cast in 90 booths in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 18 (PTI) As many as 90 polling booths, mostly in downtown city, saw no voting in Thursday's elections to the Srinagar Parliamentary seat, sources said.

The Srinagar constituency comprising eight assembly segments recorded zero turnout in as many as 50 polling booths.

The majority of these booths were located in Eidgah, Khanyar, Habba Kadal and Batmaloo, sources said.

India: BJP expels four rebel candidates in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Apr 18 (PTI) The Maharashtra unit of the BJP on Thursday announced expulsion of four party leaders who are contesting the Lok Sabha election against official candidates of the BJP or its allies in the state.

Bhausaheb Wakchaure, Anil Gote, Manikrao Kokate and Suhas Natavadkar were expelled for violating the party discipline, a BJP source said.

BJP MLA Anil Gote is contesting as independent against BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre from Dhule-Malegaon.

India: BJP leader booked for 'anti-Muslim' remarks in UP

Barabanki (UP), Apr 19 (PTI) An FIR was registered against a BJP leader on Friday for his controversial statements against Muslims.

"A case has been registered against BJP leader Ranjit Bahadur Srivastava for violation of model code of conduct. A probe is on in the matter," Additional Superintendent of Police R S Gautam said.

Addressing a gathering on Thursday as BJP candidate Upendra Rawat filed his nomination papers from Barabnki Lok Sabha constituency, Srivastava asked people to vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "break the morale of Muslims".

Mumbai, Apr 19 (PTI) Former Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi Friday joined the Shiv Sena.

Addressing a press conference with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, Chaturvedi said she left the Congress after being upset over reinstatement of party workers who misbehaved with her.

"It is not true that I quit the Congress after being denied Lok Sabha ticket," Chaturvedi said in response to a query.

19 Apr 2019; AFP: Ethnic violence that has gripped central Mali has led to the downfall of the government, accused of failing to stem bloodshed that has claimed about 600 lives.

A statement from President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita's office late Thursday said he had accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga and his entire cabinet.

Maiga was appointed in December 2017 and renamed to the job only last September, after Keita was re-elected.
