Hungary to open 'diplomatic office' in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM; 20 Feb 2019; AA: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Tuesday that Hungary has decided to open a "diplomatic office" in Jerusalem, one of only a handful of countries moving towards the U.S. position on seeing the city as the nation’s capital.

"After months of efforts, we have made a very important achievement as Hungary has decided to open a diplomatic office in Jerusalem," Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office.

India: Sena cautions BJP govt against 'war for poll gain' rhetoric

Mumbai, Feb 19 (PTI) A day after sealing a seat-sharing pact with the BJP, the Shiv Sena on Tuesday asked the NDA government not to behave in a way that would fuel allegations that it was trying to wage a war to influence poll results.

Riots and terror attacks should not be used for "political gains", the Sena said in an editorial in the party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

Inhabitants oppose transfer of Russia-controlled disputed islands to Japan

MOSCOW, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Nearly all inhabitants of four Russia-controlled Pacific islands claimed by both Moscow and Tokyo are against the transfer of the disputed territory to Japan, a poll showed Tuesday.

It said 96 percent of the 7,695 polled inhabitants of the four islands north of Japan's Hokkaido, called Southern Kurils in Russia and Northern Territories in Japan, supported this option.

India: One pilot killed, 2 eject as two Suryakiran aircraft crash

Bengaluru, Feb 19; PTI: A pilot was killed and two others ejected to safety when two aircraft of IAF's aerobatic team Surya Kiran crashed near the Yelahanka airbase here Tuesday, a day before the opening of the Aero India show, a top police official said.

The mishap occurred during a sortie as part of the rehersal for the five-day Asia's premier Air show here.

"There were three pilots, one has died, two are safe with injuries," DGP Fire Services M N Reddi who rushed to the spot told PTI.

Kejriwal asks PM Modi to grant full statehood to Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant full statehood status to Delhi, an issue that the ruling AAP is expected to raise in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls in an emphatic manner.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Tuesday said it will hold a door-to-door campaign to tell people how the BJP had done them "injustice" on the issue.

Man arrested for raising anti-India slogans in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Feb 19 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raising anti-India slogans on old Purulia road here in East Singhbhum district, a police officer said Tuesday.

The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Azadnagar police station on Sunday, the police officer said, adding, the accused, identified as Anas Razi, is a resident of Zakirnagar.

Saudi man held at Delhi airport for smuggling gold

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) A Saudi man has been arrested by customs officials at the Delhi airport for allegedly trying to smuggle into India gold worth about Rs 53 lakh, according to an official statement issued Tuesday.

The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Dammam in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

India: Rahul appoints 6 AICC secretaries for UP

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday appointed six AICC secretaries for Uttar Pradesh --three each attached to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia were appointed AICC general secretary in-charge of UP east and UP west respectively in January and took charge earlier this month.

India: Two mowed down by BJP MLA's car in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Feb 19 (PTI) Two people were mowed down and three others injured by a car in which senior state BJP leader and MLA C T Ravi was travelling near Kunigal in Tumakuru district early Tuesday, police said.

The victims, who had come in two vehicles, were standing by the roadside when the accident occurred, according to the first information report.

25 Lankan fishermen held for fishing in Indian waters

Chennai, Feb 19 (PTI) Twentyfive Sri Lankan fishermen have been arrested and five Lankan fishing boats seized for allegedly fishing illegally in Indian waters about 90 km off Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, the Coast Guard said Tuesday.

The CG was maintaining strict vigil following the recent Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

Iran says Pakistani nationals involved in suicide attack on guards

TEHRAN, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian military commander said Tuesday that the security forces have arrested two Pakistani nationals as the suspects linked to the recent terrorist attack in southeastern Iran.

"The suicide bomber and two elements of the terrorist team targeting IRGC forces were Pakistanis," Commander of the Ground Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Mohammad Pakpour, was quoted as saying by Press TV.

Pakpour identified the suicide bomber as Hafiz Mohammad Ali.

India: More than 100 people booked for blocking NH-9

Ghaziabad (UP), Feb 19 (PTI) More than 100 people blocked National Highway-9 here, following which a police case was registered against them on Tuesday, officials said.

SP (city) Shlok Kumar said a candlelight march was carried out on Monday night remembering the killed soldiers in the recent Pulwama terror attack.

After the march, those who participated in it blocked the highway due to which traffic near Khoda and Indira Puram was affected for two hours.
