Trump tells attorney general to end Russia probe

2 Aug 2018; AFP; Donald Trump on Wednesday told his attorney general to end the high-profile investigation into Russian election meddling that has ensnared key members of his presidential campaign and cast a long shadow over his White House.

In a series of tweets that quickly sparked accusations that Trump was publicly trying to pervert justice, the president decried the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller as "a disgrace."

BJP member demands NRC for whole country

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) A BJP member in the Lok Sabha today demanded that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should be prepared for the whole country, triggering protests from Opposition benches.

The remarks come against the backdrop of the draft NRC in Assam, released earlier this week, triggering a major political controversy over alleged exclusion of names of lakhs of people.

China's Huawei overtakes Apple as world's 2nd largest smartphone seller

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has surpassed Apple to become the world's second-largest smartphone seller, a market research firm said.

Huawei shipped around 54.2 million handsets for the second quarter this year, showcasing a 40.9 percent year-on-year growth and a 15 percent global market share, while Apple shipped about 41.3 million units, according to data from the U.S.-based International Data Corporation (IDC).

Terrorist Jarrod Ramos enters a plea of not guilty for shooting five people dead

Jarrod Ramos 38, accused of killing four Capital Gazette journalists and a sales assistant in Annapolis, Maryland, has entered a plea of not guilty to all 23 charges against him.

Ramos’ lawyers entered the plea with the Anne Arundel county circuit court. Ramos did not appear in court. He remains jailed without bond.

Facebook discovers coordinated disinformation operation on its platform

SAN FRANCISCO, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Facebook announced Tuesday that its security unit has found a coordinated campaign on its platform aiming to exerting political influence ahead of the upcoming U.S. mid-term elections in the next few months.

The world's largest social media network said it has removed 32 Pages and accounts from Facebook and Instagram for being "involved in coordinated inauthentic behavior."

German Neo-Nazis draw up target lists with 35,000 names

31 July 2018; AA; BERLIN; German far-right groups have drawn up several “enemy lists” containing names and addresses of more than 35,000 people, a parliamentary question revealed on Tuesday.

The Interior Ministry said the lists were found in various police investigations and operations against far-right groups in the last seven years.

The neo-Nazi group (NSU) gathered addresses and telephone numbers of around 10,000 people, until it was detected in 2011, the ministry said in its written reply to the parliamentary question.

Russia’s team finished first on the second day of the international Tank Biathlon competition. Teams from Serbia and Iran finished second and third, respectively.

The Games are being held on 24 training grounds in seven countries in a period from July 28 through August 11. Taking part are 189 teams from 32 world nations. The program includes competitions in 28 disciplines.

Opposition MPs protest outside Parliament against NRC

New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI); MPs of opposition parties today staged a protest outside Parliament against the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Armed with placards against the NRC, leaders from the TMC, SP RJD, TDP, AAP, BSP and JD(S) demanded that the government bring in changes in the NRC.

"The NRC is forcing people to become refugees in their won country," TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee claimed.
