Sudan: 40 dead as Rapid Support Forces bomb areas in Khartoum

08 June 2024; MEMO: At least 40 people were reported dead following artillery bombardment by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Omdurman area of Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Friday, Anadolu Agency reports.

The local Karari Resistance Committee said in a statement that certain residential areas in Omdurman were subjected to intense artillery bombardment by the RSF.

According to the statement, there have been 40 confirmed deaths and over 50 injuries, suggesting that the number of dead and injured could increase.

Sudan’s Burhan: Some want to 'swallow' Sudan

02 October 2023; MEMO: The Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Saturday said that there are some who want to “swallow” Sudan.

According to the Arab World Press (AWP), Al-Burhan expressed his determination to end the ongoing war in Sudan and put an end to what he described as the “cancer” that has afflicted the country.

He stressed that no one could reject peace, but “it must be a peace that preserves the dignity, pride, and sovereignty of the country.”

Sudan's army chief says he favours negotiated settlement to war

23 September 2023; MEMO: Sudan’s army chief said on Friday he had not sought military support on a recent regional tour and that his preference was for a peaceful solution to the conflict that has killed thousands and displaced millions of civilians, Reuters reports.

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan also said in an interview with Reuters that he had asked neighbouring states to stop sending mercenaries in support of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Chairman of Sudan's sovereign council travels to Qatar for official visit

KHARTOUM, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council and General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Thursday headed to the Qatari capital of Doha on an official visit, the sovereign council said in a statement.

Al-Burhan would discuss with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani the means to enhance bilateral relations, issues of mutual concern, and the developments in Sudan, the statement said.

Sudan: Fierce fighting continues around strategic camp south of Sudanese capital

KHARTOUM, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The fierce clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued on Monday around the strategic armored corps camp at Al-Shajara military area, south of the capital Khartoum.

"For the second day, the rebel militia attempted to enter the armored corps camp," Nabil Abdalla, the SAF's spokesman, said in a statement.

"Our forces repulsed the militia and inflicted heavy losses of lives and equipment on them," the statement said.

Sudan reopens airspace for civil aviation in east

16 August 2023; MEMO: Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority has reopened airspace in the eastern part of the country for air traffic.

The authority stated in a statement released late yesterday that it reopened “Sudanese airspace to air traffic on the eastern routes of the country, starting today, Tuesday.”

An alternative air navigation centre was established in the city of Port Sudan in the east of the country.

Sudan: RSF ready to negotiate with army

30 July 2023; MEMO: Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Commander Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, who has been fighting the army since April, said Sunday that the group is ready to reach a deal within 72 hours if there is a change in the army's leadership, reports Anadolu Agency.

Daglo announced in a video recording on the RSF's social media account that it is ready to reach an agreement if the army's chief commander surrenders.

Sudan: 70% of hospitals not working, say doctors

24 July 2023; MEMO: The Sudan Doctors' Union said yesterday that 70 per cent of hospitals are not operational in the areas where fighting is taking place between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. The union pointed out that there are "62 hospitals suspended from service, and 27 hospitals fully or partially working" in the capital Khartoum and other cities.
