China pledges further COVID-19 aid to Southeast Asia

BEIJING (AP) — China on Tuesday pledged further assistance to Southeast Asian nations in battling the coronavirus pandemic as it seeks to boost influence with the region where the United States is also looking to strengthen ties.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his counterparts from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations that China had already delivered 100 million vaccine doses to ASEAN nations along with other pandemic-fighting materials and technical help.

In an interview with CEN, Deputy General Manager of SK Hydro, Danish Haseeb Khan said, “I have witnessed the joint efforts of the Chinese and Pakistani employees in Suki Kinari Hydro Private Limited (SK Hydro). Relevant government departments of the two sides have forged ahead with strong cooperation,”.

China dispatches vaccine, syringe aid to 66 countries

BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- China has completed dispatching COVID-19 vaccines and syringes to 66 countries and one international organization as of Sunday amid efforts to provide vaccine aid and strengthen international cooperation, according to the commerce ministry.

The Ministry of Commerce (MOC), along with relevant government bodies, will ensure that vaccines could be delivered to recipient countries as soon as possible, said Qian Chunying, an official with the ministry, on Monday.

China hosts Southeast Asian ministers as it competes with US

Beijing, Jun 7 (AP-PTI) China is hosting foreign ministers from 10 Southeast Asian nations this week amid heightened competition between Beijing and Washington for influence in the region.

Chinese state media said the meeting Tuesday in the southwestern megacity of Chongqing will cover issues from restoring tourism and other economic exchanges battered by COVID-19, to more coordinated efforts in fighting the pandemic and the feasibility of creating a vaccine passport to allow freer travel among them.

Chinese exports jump as pandemic wanes in US, other markets

BEIJING (AP) — China has reported its exports and imports surged in May on growing demand as the pandemic was waning in the U.S. and other key markets, though the pace of growth is leveling off.

Customs data released Monday showed exports rose 28% from a year earlier and imports soared 51% — at the fastest annual pace in over a decade. Total exports climbed 40% in the first five months of the year from a year earlier. They were up 29% from the same period in 2019.

Chinese medical team sent to Pakistan for CPEC project

BEIJING, Jun 5 (APP):A Chinese medical team has been sent to Pakistan to serve the work staff and construction of Karot Hydropower Project, under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The team consists of one doctor-in-charge of the Critical Care Medicine and five nurses, which was the third one sent by the First People’s Hospital in Yichang, Hubei Province, China Economic Net (CEN) reported.

Putin says Russia-China relations at highest-ever level

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedentedly high level and the two sides have extensive shared interests.

Russia is willing to deepen cooperation with China in more areas, Putin said via video link when he took a question from He Ping, president and editor-in-chief of Xinhua News Agency, on China-Russia relations, in a meeting with heads of major international news agencies, held in St. Petersburg on Friday local time.

China to limit carbon dioxide emissions of public institutions to 400 mln tonnes by 2025

BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- China aims to limit public institutions' total carbon dioxide emissions to 400 million tonnes by 2025, the National Government Offices Administration said Friday.

In 2020, there were about 1.586 million public institutions across China, said a work plan on energy and resources conservation among public institutions during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
