TOKYO, May 10 (Reuters) - China will be the elephant in the room at this week's meeting of Group of Seven (G7) finance leaders, who will seek to diversify supply chains away from the country -- but also try to get Beijing's cooperation in solving global debt problems.

The conflicting goals come on top of vulnerabilities the G7 rich democracies face due to their heavily reliance on China, which is the world's second-largest economy and the second biggest external holder of U.S. debt.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit was expected to see wrangling over Myanmar's bloody crisis, with patience wearing thin as its junta demonstrates no intent to pursue a peace plan agreed with the regional bloc after it seized power in a 2021 coup.

Indonesia: ASEAN leaders condemn armed attack on aid convoy in Myanmar

LABUAN BAJO, Indonesia (AP) — Southeast Asian leaders condemned an armed attack on an aid convoy that the regional group had arranged for displaced people in Myanmar, calling Wednesday for an immediate stop to violence and for the military government to comply with a peace plan.

Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations convened in the picturesque harbor town of Labuan Bajo in southern Indonesia at the start of a two-day summit. Their host, President Joko Widodo, called for unity amid global economic headwinds and major-power rivalry that’s lashing the region.

Kazakhstan: Tokayev, Putin emphasize need to further develop partnership

ASTANA, May 9. /TASS/: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has held substantive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his working visit to Russia, and the two presidents emphasized the need to develop the partnership even further, Kazakhstan’s presidential spokesman, Ruslan Zheldibay, told reporters on Tuesday.

Indonesia’s Foreign Exchange Reserves Down To 144.2 Billion USD By Apr

JAKARTA, May 9 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesia posted foreign exchange reserves of 144.2 billion U.S. dollars at the end of Apr, down from the previous month’s 145.2 billion dollars, according to the central bank, yesterday.

“The payment of the government’s external debt and foreign currency liquidity, in line with anticipation of a religious holiday, were two factors that contributed to the decline in foreign exchange reserves in Apr, 2023,” said Erwin Haryono, executive director of the Communication Department of Bank Indonesia.
