India, Indonesia begin naval exercise

New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) India and Indonesia began a three-day mega naval wargame on Monday in the Sunda Strait, in reflection of their growing maritime cooperation.

Officials said the Indian Navy deployed its two frontline warships Shivalik and Kadmatt for the third edition of the exercise 'Samudra Shakti'.

The two ships arrived in Jakarta on Saturday. The Sunda Strait lies between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra.

India: Minor raped by 13-year-old in UP

Bareilly (UP), Sep 20 (PTI) A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 13-year-old boy in a village in this district, police said on Monday.

Police have registered a case in the connection and apprehended the accused, SP (Rural) Raj Kumar Agarwal told the media here.

The medical examination of the survivor has confirmed rape, police said.

According to the girl's statement, she was going to throw garbage three days ago when she met the accused who dragged her to a hut and raped her, police said.

India: First-ever' lung transplantation in West Bengal

Kolkata, Sept 20 (PTI) West Bengal is set to witness its first lung transplantation after doctors at a private hospital here managed to get the vital organ from a brain-dead patient in Gujarat.

The recipient is a senior citizen who was admitted to the facility for over three months, an official said.

The surgery started on Monday night and it may take over 14 hours, he said.

This will be the first time that lung transplantation is being conducted in the state, a health department official said.

India to resume exports of coronavirus vaccines in October

NEW DELHI (AP) — India, the world’s largest vaccine producer, will resume exports and donations of surplus coronavirus vaccines in October after halting them during a devastating surge in domestic infections in April, the health minister said Monday.

Mansukh Mandaviya said the surplus vaccines will be used to fulfill India’s “commitment towards the world for the collective fight against COVID-19,” but vaccinating Indians will remain the government’s “topmost priority.”

New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) Facebook India on Monday said it has appointed ex-IAS officer and former Uber executive Rajiv Aggarwal as the Director of Public Policy.

He succeeds Ankhi Das, who quit in October last year. She was embroiled in a controversy for opposing enforcement of hate-speech rules against right-wing leaders in the country.

India: Raped and harassed teen found hanging at home in UP

Kanpur, Sep 19 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her home in Baraur area of Kanpur Dehat district after she was raped and harassed by a youth living in her neighbourhood, police said on Sunday.

The 25-year-old accused has been arrested, they said.

The victim, a Class 10 student, has left behind a suicide note written in English in which she stated that she is committing suicide on her own will and no one will be responsible for her act, the SP added.
