India: 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' to enter MP on March 2; Rahul Gandhi to hold roadshows, public meetings

BHOPAL: The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will enter Madhya Pradesh on March 2 and the mass outreach programme, being held ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, will continue in the state till March 6, a party leader said on Tuesday.

Gandhi will hold a roadshow on March 2 after the yatra enters MP at Piprai in Morena district, state Congress vice president Rajiv Singh said.

Pakistan: A Russian private jet carrying 6 people is believed to have crashed in Afghanistan, officials say

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A Russian private jet carrying six people is believed to have crashed in a remote area of rural Afghanistan, authorities said Sunday.

The crash happened Saturday in a mountainous area near Zebak district in Badakhshan province, regional spokesman Zabihullah Amiri said, adding that a rescue team had been dispatched to the area. Zebak is some 250 kilometers (155 miles) northeast of Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul. It is a rural, mountainous area, home to only several thousand people.

Indian Navy rescues crew after Houthis hit ship off Yemen

NEW DELHI/WASHINGTON, Jan 18 (Reuters) - The Indian Navy said on Thursday it had rescued the crew of a U.S.-owned vessel in the Gulf of Aden after an attack by Yemen's Houthi movement as tensions in the region's sea lanes disrupted global trade.

Following the attack on the U.S. Genco Picardy late on Wednesday, the U.S. military said its forces had conducted strikes on 14 Houthi missiles that "presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region".

Pakistan hits "terrorists" in Iran responsible for recent attacks: military

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan military said in a statement that the country had carried out effective strikes early Thursday morning against hideouts inside Iran used by "terrorists" responsible for recent attacks in Pakistan.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan army, said that the precision strikes were carried out by "using killer drones, rockets, loitering munitions, and stand-off weapons," adding that "maximum care was taken to avoid collateral damage."

Pakistan launches airstrikes in Iran, killing 9, after an earlier attack by Tehran

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan’s air force launched retaliatory airstrikes early Thursday in Iran against alleged militant hideouts, killing at least nine people and further raising tensions between the neighbors.

Thursday’s attack followed one by Iran inside Pakistan on Tuesday. Both appeared to target Baluch militant groups with similar separatist goals on either side of the Iran-Pakistan border. The countries accuse each other of providing safe haven to the groups in their respective territories.

3 cops die in road mishap amid dense fog in north India

NEW DELHI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least three police cops, including a lady cop, were killed and 14 others were injured on Wednesday when the bus they were traveling in crashed into a stationary truck in north India due to poor visibility owing to dense fog, confirmed a local government official.

The accident occurred at around 7:00 a.m. local time in the Hoshiarpur district of the northern state of Punjab.

Two Terrorists Killed In Military Operation In NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan 14 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani security forces claimed on Friday evening, to have killed two terrorists during an operation in North Waziristan district of the country’s north-west Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Sri Lankan Navy Apprehended 12 Indian Fishermen For Poaching

COLOMBO, Jan 14 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Sri Lankan navy apprehended 12 Indian fishermen, and seized three trawlers last night, while they were poaching in the country’s territorial waters, the navy said in a statement, today.

The arrests were made in the seas off the Kovilan Point Lighthouse, in the northern city of Jaffna, during the navy’s special operation, to chase away Indian poaching trawlers from Sri Lankan waters, the navy said.
