India: Bite marks nail accused in rape case in Maha

Thane, Sep 29 (PTI) Thane Police have nailed a 48- year-old man in connection with the rape of a woman here in Maharashtra on the basis of bite marks on his chest, an official said on Sunday.

The accused, Lakhan Devkar, caught hold of the 50- year-old woman, a resident of Ulhasnagar township, when she was returning home alone on June 23 this year.

He dragged her to secluded place in the area where he raped her, police inspector Balaji Pandhre said.

India: RBI may go for another rate cut on Oct 4: Experts

Mumbai, Sep 29 (PTI) The RBI may cut the key policy rate again on Friday, the fifth in row, to complement the government's measures like reducing corporate tax and promoting credit offtake to spur economic activity during the festive season amid range-bound inflation.

The RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das headed Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will announce the fourth bi-monthly monetary policy for 2019-20 on Friday, October 4, after its three-day meeting.

India: Christian religious leader held for raping woman

Palghar, Sep 27 (PTI) A Christian religious leader from Vasai has been arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year- old woman from his community, police said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Glen Subhash D'Cruz (41), was arrested on Thursday for sexually assaulting the woman on multiple occasions from 2018 to August this year, police said.

"As the woman was facing some family problems, she had approached the accused last year to share her woes with him.

India: Stealth frigate Nilgiri launched for sea trials

Mumbai, Sep 28 (PTI) Stealth frigate INS Nilgiri, the first ship of the P-17A frigates, was launched at the dockyard of the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) here on Saturday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's wife Savitri Singh, as part of traditions, launched INS Nilgiri into the sea for further trials.

Besides Rajnath Singh, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh and other officials were present on the occasion.

Pawar drops ED office visit plan, says won't get scared off

Mumbai, Sep 27 : NCP chief Sharad Pawar, named in a money-laundering case by the ED in connection with a scam at Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank, on Friday said he won't visit the agency's office "for now", much to the relief of police and common citizens.

Pawar's decision came after Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve met him at his residence and requested him not to visit the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) office as it may create a law and order situation.

India: Man dumps 'lower caste' wife, booked for raping her

Palghar, Sep 26 (PTI) A man, who married a 22-year-old woman but later deserted her as she belonged to a "lower caste", has been booked for allegedly raping her, police said on Thursday.

The accused, Swapnil Mali from Saravati in Bhiwandi, was booked by the district rural police on Wednesday, an official said.

"As per the complaint filed by the woman from Achole in Nalasopara, Mali had befriended her on a social media platform and married her at a court in Bandra months later," Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Katkar said.

17 killed as heavy rains lash Pune city, district

Pune, Sep 26 (PTI) At least 17 persons were killed in rain-related incidents after intense showers battered Pune city and parts of the district on Wednesday and Thursday, officials said.

The district administration declared holiday on Friday for schools in the city as well in the tehsils of Haveli, Bhor, Purandar and Baramati.

India: RBI allows PMC customers to withdraw Rs 10,000

Mumbai, Sep 26 (PTI) In a relief to the harried customers of crisis-hit Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative Bank, the Reserve Bank Thursday increased the cash withdrawal limit to Rs 10,000 per account, which will help over 60 percent customers of the crippled lender.

The RBI had Tuesday imposed a slew of restrictions on the bank for six months, allowing withdrawal of only Rs 1,000 for the bank's depositors, leaving the customers, who are typically not from the well-heeled a worried lot.

India: Won't bow down before Delhi "throne": Pawar on ED action

Mumbai, Sep 25 (PTI) NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said he will visit the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office on September 27 in connection with a money laundering case filed against him by the agency.

Addressing media here, Pawar also questioned the timing of the ED move, which comes days before the October 21 Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Pawar said he will visit the ED office at 2 pm on September 27 to submit "whatever information" sought in connection with the Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank scam.

India: RBI imposes restrictions on PMC Bank; withdrawal restricted to Rs 1,000 per account

Mumbai, Sep 24 (PTI) The Reserve Bank on Tuesday imposed operational restrictions on Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC Bank), resulting in chaos outside its branches in the financial capital.

As per the RBI directions to PMC Bank, withdrawals have been capped at Rs 1,000 per account and the bank is not allowed to make any fresh loans.
