India: Shah Rukh Khan begins shoot for Siddharth Anand's "Pathan"

Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Wednesday started shooting for his next film, to be helmed by "War" director Siddharth Anand, according to a source close to the project.

Khan was spotted at Yash Raj Studios in a long hair look, leading to speculation that he has commenced filming for the movie reportedly titled "Pathan".

The film marks his first project after 2018's "Zero", which received a lukewarm response.

India: Man kills wife over dowry in Maharashtra

Latur, Nov 18 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was hacked to death allegedly by her husband during an argument over demand for dowry in the wee hours of Wednesday here in Maharashtra, police said.

The accused, Rajkumar Laxaman Gaikwad, a resident of Haibatpur village in Latur district, has been arrested, they said.

He assaulted his wife, Rahu Rajkumar Gaikwad (28), with an axe around 1.30 am, leaving her dead on the spot, the police said.

India: Kangana Ranaut, sister summoned by Mumbai police again

Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) Mumbai police on Wednesday asked Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel to appear before them on November 23 over "objectionable comments" on social media aimed at spreading communal tension.

This is the third time Mumbai police have asked the actor to appear before the Bandra police in the matter.

Kangana had earlier informed the police that she was busy with a wedding in the family and will be available only after November 15.

India: Places of worship reopen in Maha

Mumbai, Nov 16 (PTI) Places of religious worship in Maharashtra, which were shut since the imposition of COVID-19 lockdown in March, reopened on Monday with devotees visiting some of the prominent temples and shrines in the state.

The reopening of the places of worship coincided with the Diwali 'Padwa', which is an important festival in the state.

India: Hindu Samvat Muhurat trading: Sensex, Nifty jump to lifetime highs

Mumbai, Nov 14 (PTI) Market benchmark BSE Sensex rallied 381 points to a fresh lifetime high in the opening trade of the special Muhurat session on Saturday to mark the beginning of Hindu Samvat year 2077.

The 30-share index was trading higher by 380.76 points, or 0.88 per cent, at 43,823.76 in the first few minutes of trade.

Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty surged 117.85 points or 0.93 per cent to its new record of 12,808.65.

All BSE sectoral indices were in the green, led by telecom, capital goods, industrials and finance.

India: People have rejected religious agenda in Bihar: Ambedkar

Aurangabad, Nov 11 (PTI) Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) leader Prakash Ambedkar on Wednesday said ballot papers should be used in elections as people have "no faith" in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

He also hailed RJD's Tejashwi Yadav for putting up a "good fight" in the recently-held Bihar elections, results of which were announced on Tuesday.

Addressing reporters here, Ambedkar said many parties alleged malpractices in the recently contested Bihar assembly elections, results of which were declared on Tuesday.

India: If Nitish becomes Bihar CM, credit goes to Shiv Sena

Mumbai, Nov 11 (PTI) Praising RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for giving a "spirited fight" in the Bihar Assembly polls, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday needled the BJP saying that if Nitish Kumar retains the post of chief minister despite the JD(U) winning fewer seats, the credit should go to the Sena.

It said that the BJP had promised that Nitish Kumar would be the next chief minister of Bihar even if his party bags less number of seats.

India: Senior Republic TV executive held in fake TRP scam

Mumbai, Nov 10 (PTI) Republic TV's distribution head Ghanshyam Singh was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged TRP (Television Rating Point) rigging scam, a Mumbai crime branch official said.

Singh, who is also Assistant Vice President of the Republic Media Network, was picked up from his residence around 7.40 am, the official said.

The latest arrest has taken the number of people held by the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the crime branch in the case to 12.

India: Gulf Oil Q2 net dips 4.59 pc to Rs 59.13 cr

Mumbai, Nov 7 (PTI) Hinduja group-owned lubes maker Gulf Oil reported a 4.59 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 59.13 crore for the September quarter of this fiscal.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 61.98 crore in Q2FY20, according to a Gulf Oil release on Saturday.

The net sales declined 2 per cent to Rs 411.74 crore in the September quarter, as compared to Rs 421.28 crore in the July-September period of the previous fiscal.
