Buttigieg, Sanders nearly tied as Iowa caucus results narrow

WASHINGTON (AP) — Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders are nearly tied in the Iowa Democratic caucuses, with nearly all results counted in a contest marred by technical issues and reporting delays.

The race remained too early to call with 97% of precincts reporting. Party officials were scrambling to verify the remaining results three days after Iowans gathered at caucus sites across the state to begin choosing which Democrat will take on President Donald Trump in November.

He also reported progress in the ongoing peace talks with the Taliban aimed at concluding the conflict in the war-torn country. Pakistan has facilitated the talks.

Draft UN resolution condemns Israeli annexation in Trump peace plan

05 Feb 2020; MEMO: A draft United Nations Security Council resolution on Tuesday condemned an Israeli plan to annex its settlements in the West Bank in a rebuke of President Donald Trump’s pro-Israel 'peace proposal', Reuters reports.

The draft text, circulated to council members by Tunisia and Indonesia, would seemingly face a US veto, but nonetheless offered some members’ dim view of the peace plan that Trump rolled out last week with great fanfare.

Pompeo discusses Iran with IAEA chief

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi on Iran, according to U.S. State Department.

The two discussed the IAEA's monitoring work in Iran, nuclear security, and the importance of the IAEA to U.S. security interests, State Department's Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.

Pompeo and Grossi pledged to stay in close contact on nuclear issues of concern, the statement added.

Canadian jet forced back to airport after passenger falsely claims he has coronavirus

OTTAWA, Feb 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A Canadian man on a flight from Toronto to Jamaica falsely announced to passengers that he had the coronavirus, forcing the plane to return to the airport where he was arrested.

The incident occurred on Monday during a WestJet Airlines flight from Toronto to Montego Bay.

“A male was causing a disturbance on the flight, saying he had been to China and had the coronavirus,” said Sarah Patten, a spokeswoman for police in the town of Peel, close to Toronto’s Pearson international airport.
