NEW YORK, Oct 17 (APP): India violated United Nations resolutions as well as bilateral agreements with Pakistan when it annexed occupied Kashmir more than two months ago and brought in thousands of additional Indian troops to clampdown on the disputed state, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said, and reiterated his call on the world body to intervene.

US to continue anti-IS campaign, but from beyond Syria’s borders — Pentagon

WASHINGTON, October 17. /TASS/: The United States will consider its campaign to counter the Islamic State terrorist group (outlawed in Russia), but will act from beyond the Syrian territory, a high-ranking US Department of Defense official told reporters.

"The Defeat-ISIS campaign will continue," the official, who wished to be anonymous, said in a publication posted on the Pentagon’s official website. "We have significant assets and personnel as well as coalition capabilities throughout the region that will continue to prosecute that campaign."

Elijah Cummings, head of U.S. House oversight panel probing Trump, has died

(Reuters) - U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings, one of the most influential Democrats in Congress and a key figure in the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, died on Thursday at age 68.

The cause of death was “complications concerning longstanding health challenges,” his office said in a statement. Cummings had been absent recently from Congress due to health concerns including heart and knee problems.

U.S. may issue additional sanctions on Turkey: White House adviser Kudlow

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is prepared to levy additional sanctions on Turkey if necessary, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said on Thursday as Washington seeks to halt Ankara’s offensive into northeastern Syria.

“We will use sanctions, and we may use more sanctions to keep Turkey in line,” Kudlow told CNBC in an interview.

Mexican president says airport serving capital to operate by 2021

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said construction on an airport north of Mexico City will begin on Thursday and the site will open by 2021, despite a slew of legal hurdles that have slowed work on the project.

The airport, a military base in Santa Lucia to be converted into a commercial airport, is meant to replace a part-built $13 billion airport that Lopez Obrador canceled, calling it costly, geologically unsound and riddled with corruption.

US: House votes to oppose Trump’s Syria pullback

17 Oct 2019; MEMO: The US House of Representatives voted Wednesday on a bipartisan resolution opposing President Donald Trump’s decision to pull back troops in northern Syria, Anadolu reports.

The measure passed 354-60 with every Democrats and more than two-thirds of Republicans in favor.

Sponsored by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel and Republican Michael McCaul, the resolution “opposes the decision to end certain United States efforts to prevent Turkish military operations” in northeastern Syria.

Mexico deports 311 Indians

Mexico City, Oct 17 (PTI) In a first, Mexico's migration authorities deported 311 Indians, including a woman, from various parts of the country amidst its stepped up efforts to check people illegally crossing its borders following pressure from the US.

According to a press release issued by the National Migration Institute (INM) on Wednesday, the Indian nationals, who did not have a condition of regular stay in the country, were deported from the Toluca City International Airport on a Boeing 747 aircraft to New Delhi.

Trump defends troop pull out from Syria, says US not getting involved in 'crazy endless wars'

Washington, Oct 17 (PTI) The US is not going to get involved in "crazy endless wars" over 7,000 miles away, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, defending his decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria.

The last week decision paved the way for Turkey to launch a cross-border military offensive that aims to push the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from the region. Turkey considers the biggest militia in the SDF a terrorist organisation.

U.S. to resume foreign aid to three Central American countries

WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- The United States said on Wednesday that it will resume foreign assistance fundings to three Central American countries -- El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

The three countries have been intensely pressed by and finally reached pacts with the United States over immigration issues.
