UNITED STATES (AP) — Residents signing up for food stamps in Minnesota are provided a brochure about domestic violence, but it doesn’t matter if they even read the pamphlet. The mere fact it was made available could allow them to qualify for government food aid if their earnings or savings exceed federal limits.

As odd as that might sound, it’s not actually unusual.

Washington, Jul 27 (PTI) US President Donald Trump on Friday said he would impose tax on French wine in retaliation of France's digital tax that would impact American companies.

"I told him (French President Emmanuel Macron) don't do it, because if you do it, I'm going to tax your wine -- tariff or tax -- call it whatever you want. So, yeah, we are working on that right now," Trump told reporters at the White House.

UNITED NATIONS, July 26 (Xinhua) -- UN Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo said Friday that the organization remains committed to assisting Afghanistan in its peace process.

"The United Nations remains committed to assisting Afghanistan in its efforts for peace, stability and prosperity," DiCarlo told a Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan.

This is an important year for Afghanistan, with the country -- marking 100 years of independence -- facing "an unprecedented opportunity for peace," said the UN political affairs chief.

Trump aims to show he's tough on crime with federal death penalty

WASHINGTON, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is re-instating the federal death penalty for the first time in nearly two decades, in what experts call an effort to show his base he's tough on crime.

This week saw U.S. Attorney General William Barr order the Federal Bureau of Prisons to re-instate the death penalty for federal prisoners, with five inmates, who have been convicted of murder, slated for execution in December and January.

Trump vows to retaliate against French digital tax

He also managed to get in a shot at French wine. Trump, who doesn’t drink alcohol, tweeted: “I’ve always said American wine is better than French wine!”
