The two met Monday evening in the Oval Office and had a “good conversation,” according to a senior administration official. It was their first time speaking since last Wednesday, when Trump incited his supporters to storm the Capitol building as Pence was presiding over certification of November’s election results. Pence and his family were forced into hiding.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Joe Biden will nominate former career diplomat and former deputy secretary of state William Burns to lead the CIA, his transition team said on Monday.

Burns served 33 years as a U.S. diplomat, including as U.S. ambassador to Russia and as lead negotiator in the secret talks that paved the way to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, under former Democratic President Barack Obama.

He is currently president of the international affairs think tank the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

In a virtual speech for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the first meeting of the UN General Assembly, Guterres noted that 97 percent of respondents to a UN-sponsored global survey called for improved global cooperation to find multilateral solutions to today's global challenges.
