UNITED NATIONS, Oct 08 (APP): Delegates of India and Pakistan engaged in a verbal duel at two UN panels Wednesday night after Pakistan’s Ambassador Munir Akram highlighted New Delhi’s human rights abuses in Occupied Kashmir and drew attention to the rising Islamophobia across India in his hard-hitting speeches.

Trump says U.S. troops in Afghanistan should return home by Christmas

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that remaining U.S. troops in Afghanistan should return home by Christmas.

"We should have the small remaining number of our BRAVE Men and Women serving in Afghanistan home by Christmas!" He tweeted.

Trump's National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, however, suggested that the U.S. military would still keep 2,500 troops in Afghanistan by early 2021.

Trump returns to Oval Office, while recuperating from COVID-19

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the Oval Office at the White House on Wednesday while still recuperating from COVID-19.

Trump was briefed on economic stimulus talks and Hurricane Delta, a potentially devastating storm heading toward the Gulf Coast, according to White House spokesman Brian Morgenstern.

The president later tweeted himself that he had spoken to governors of Texas and Louisiana on the hurricane, which is expected to hit the southern coastal region later this week.

USA: Ex-officer charged in George Floyd’s death freed on $1M bond

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The former Minneapolis police officer charged with murder in the death of George Floyd posted bail Wednesday and was released from jail, leading Minnesota’s governor to activate the National Guard to help keep the peace in the event of protests.

According to court documents, Derek Chauvin posted a $1 million bond and was released from the state’s facility in Oak Park Heights, where he had been detained. Hennepin County jail records show he was released shortly before 11:30 a.m.
