USA: Oregon trooper injured, 24 arrested in Portland protests

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Protesters in Portland, Oregon, defied police orders to disperse and threw rocks, frozen or hard-boiled eggs and commercial-grade fireworks at officers as unrest in the Northwest city continued early Saturday.

An Oregon State Police Trooper was struck in the head by a large rock and suffered a head injury, police said in a release. The trooper’s condition was not immediately known.

Trump vows to quickly achieve deals with Iran, N. Korea if re-elected

WASHINGTON, August 8. /TASS/: US President Donald Trump said that if re-elected, he would achieve agreements with Iran and North Korea ‘very quickly.’

"If and when we win, we will make deals with Iran very quickly. We'll make deals with North Korea very quickly," the US leader told reporters in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Friday.

"If I didn’t win the election in 2016, our country would be - maybe it would be over by now - in war with North Korea," he continued. "You would have been at war with North Korea, and it would have been a very bad war."

Trump believes Russia, China are against his re-election

CDC: 15 poisonings from ingestion of alcohol-based hand sanitizer reported in U.S.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed that it received notification of 15 cases of methanal poisoning associated with ingesting alcohol-based hand sanitizers in recent months.

The 15 cases, including four deaths, were reported in Arizona and New Mexico states from May through June 30, according to a CDC report published Wednesday.

Among the four patients who died, three had seizures when they were hospitalized. And three other patients were discharged with vision loss after treatment, according to the CDC.
