MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An oversight board demoted Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales on Thursday after questioning how he handled multiple incidents, including ordering officers to fire tear gas and pepper spray at protesters demonstrating over George Floyd’s death.

The city’s Fire and Police Commission unanimously voted Thursday evening to demote Morales to captain after three-and-a-half years on the job.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington talks on vital COVID-19 rescue money are teetering on the brink of collapse after a marathon meeting in the Capitol Thursday night generated a wave of recriminations but little progress on the top issues confronting negotiators.

“There’s a handful of very big issues that we are still very far apart” on, said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who depicted a stalemate on aid to states and local governments and renewing supplemental unemployment benefits.

Guterres reiterates appeal for resolution of Kashmir dispute through talks, says UN ready to help

UNITED NATIONS, Aug 06 (APP): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres Wednesday evening reiterated his appeal to India and Pakistan to find a “peaceful and mutually satisfactory” solution of the Kashmir dispute through dialogue, marking one year anniversary of India’s illegal action to end the special status of the disputed state.

The UN chief said the Indo-Pakistan dialogue should be “in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and full respect for human rights,” according to a statement issued by his Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq.

U.S. To Present UN Resolution To Extend Arms Embargo On Iran

WASHINGTON, Aug 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) – U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said, the United States would present a resolution in the United Nations Security Council next week, to extend an international arms embargo on Iran, despite lukewarm support for the bid.

“We’re not going to let the arms embargo expire on Oct 18 of this year,” Pompeo said, at a press briefing.

He also threatened to trigger the snap-back mechanism in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, to reimpose UN sanctions against Tehran.
