Trump plays on fears in play for the suburbs

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. (AP) — President Donald Trump this week sent a message to “The Suburban Housewives of America,” and in a single tweet summed up his strategy for shoring up support in communities critical to his reelection chances: Scare them.

“Biden will destroy your neighborhood and your American Dream. I will preserve it, and make it even better!” he wrote.

USA: Extra unemployment aid expires as virus threatens new states

LOS ANGELES (AP) — As public health officials warned Friday that the coronavirus posed new risks to parts of the Midwest and South, enhanced federal payments that helped avert financial ruin for millions of unemployed Americans were set to expire — leaving threadbare safety nets offered by individual states to catch them.

Since early in the pandemic, the federal government has added $600 to the weekly unemployment checks that states send. That increase ends this week, and with Congress still haggling over next steps, most states will not be able to offer nearly as much.

ABBA to release five new songs, to go on tour in 2021

Los Angeles, Jul 23 (PTI) Iconic pop band ABBA will release five brand new tracks next year followed by a holographic tour.

The group, formed in Sweden in 1972, have sold over 400 million albums in their career with includes all-time hits such as "Mamma Mia", "Dancing Queen", "Chiquitita" and "Super Trooper" among others.

In 2018, the Swedish quartet, comprising Bjorn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, announced they will put out new material after 35 years.

Covid-19: UN calls on Arab world for more solidarity against pandemic

UNITED NATIONS, July 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Faced with deep and lasting consequences from the coronavirus pandemic, Arab countries must show more mutual support through aid, for example by creating “regional solidarity funds,” the UN said.

“The Arab region, home to 436 million people, initially kept transmission and mortality rates lower than the global average but more recent trends are cause for concern,” said a UN document, which details COVID-19’s impact on the region, as well as the body’s recommendations.

USA: Ann Taylor owner files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

New York, Jul 23 (AP/PTI) The operator of Ann Taylor and Lane Bryant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday, the latest retailer to do so during the pandemic.

Mahwah, New Jersey-based Ascena Retail Group Inc., which operates nearly 3,000 stores mostly at malls, had been dragged down by debt and weak sales for years.

USA: Big tech antitrust probe report from Congress likely by early fall

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A much-anticipated deep dive into antitrust allegations against four of America’s largest tech companies and recommendations on how to tame their market power could be released by late summer or early fall from the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee’s antitrust panel, senior committee aides said.

The committee has received 1.3 million documents from the companies so far, they said in a call with reporters on Thursday.

US to help India in addressing its developmental challenges

Washington, Jul 24 (PTI) The United States has proposed to help India in addressing its most serious developmental challenges through innovative finance tools, a top Trump Administration official has said.

USA: The wealthy Republicans who want to oust Trump in November's election

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jimmy Tosh, who runs a multi-million dollar hog and grain farm in Tennessee, is a lifelong Republican. He is pro-gun, supports lower taxes and agrees with most of Republican President Donald Trump’s agenda.

He is also spending his money to help defeat Trump in November’s election.

“I agree with 80% of the things he does; I just cannot stand a liar,” Tosh, 70, said of Trump.
