US senior diplomat complains Europe not doing enough in Libya

WASHINGTON, July 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Europe can do more in Libya by designating Russian military contractor Wagner Group and calling out Moscow and other countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Egypt that are violating a UN arms embargo, a senior US diplomat said.

Europeans are “proud” about their naval mission in the Mediterranean Sea, carried out to help enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya, but their maritime interdictions have been limited to Turkey, David Schenker, assistant secretary for Near East Affairs at the State Department, told a virtual think-tank event.

US urges Israeli PM Netanyahu to keep alive chance of Palestinian state

WASHINGTON, July 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United States has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to keep alive the prospect of a Palestinian state as he considers West Bank annexation, a senior official said.

Netanyahu’s government had set July 1 as the date when it could begin formally taking over Palestinian areas seized in 1967 in line with a plan outlined in January by US President Donald Trump.

U.S. targets Chinese Communist Party members in possible travel ban: source

New York Governor blames federal government's "incompetence" for COVID-19 spread in New York

NEW YORK, July 16 (Xinhua) -- New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that the federal government's "incompetence" in managing the COVID-19 crisis failed New York, which became the first epicenter of the outbreak in the United States in March.

U.S. breaks record with over 77,000 cases of COVID-19 in one day: Johns Hopkins

NEW YORK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The United States reported a record high of more than 77,000 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 3,560,364, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose by 974, taking the country's total to 138,201.

The state of Florida, which has emerged as the epicenter of the outbreak, reported a record 156 COVID-19 deaths on Thursday with close to 14,000 new cases.
