WASHINGTON (AP) — For weeks, President Donald Trump has been eager to publicly turn the page on the coronavirus pandemic. Now fears are growing within the White House that the very thing that finally shoved the virus from center stage — mass protests over the death of George Floyd — may bring about its resurgence.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In an extraordinary rebuke, former defense secretary Jim Mattis on Wednesday denounced President Donald Trump’s heavy-handed use of military force to quell protests near the White House and said his former boss was setting up a “false conflict” between the military and civilian society.

“I have watched this week’s unfolding events, angry and appalled,” Mattis wrote.

UNITED NATIONS, June 03 (APP): United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stands for avoiding steps that would escalate tensions between India and Pakistan, his spokesman said Tuesday, when asked about New Delhi’s repeated violations of the Line-of-Control (LOC) in the disputed Kashmir region.

“The secretary-general’s basic message has always been for all and every party to avoid anything that would escalate tensions,” Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in response to a question from APP at a virtual news briefing in New York.

Unrest Over Floyd’s Death Continues Across U.S. As Protests Go Global

BEIJING, June 3 (NNN-XINHUA) – Following the death of African American George Floyd, thousands of protesters gathered for demonstrations across U.S. cities, as well as, around the world.

Floyd, 46, died after Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes. Two separate autopsies released both found Floyd’s death to be a homicide.

USA: Safety board asks helicopter makers to install 'black boxes'

(AP) --- Federal safety investigators bypassed aviation regulators on Tuesday and urged leading helicopter manufacturers to install so-called black boxes that would help determine the cause of crashes such as the one that killed former NBA star Kobe Bryant.

The National Transportation Safety Board appealed directly to six manufacturers after the Federal Aviation Administration failed to act on the board’s recommendations to require the devices on most helicopters. The safety board said turbine-powered helicopters should record data, audio and images during flight.

Pelosi urges Trump to be ‘healer in chief’ as protests rage
