Florida county orders Dorian evacuations

MIAMI (AP) — The Latest on Hurricane Dorian (all times local):

10:15 a.m.

A coastal Florida county is ordering an evacuation of barrier islands, mobile homes and areas that are prone to flood because of Hurricane Dorian.

Palm Beach County issued the evacuation order beginning 1 p.m. Sunday after the county that includes West Palm Beach was placed under a tropical storm warning.

The official forecast path for Dorian curves the storm away from the area before it strikes land.

Russia assumes presidency in UN Security Council

California Police arrests suspect in deadly stabbing of Sikh man

Washington, Sep 1 (PTI) Police in the US state of California have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 64-year-old Sikh grandfather from India, authorities said on Sunday.

Parmjit Singh was attacked in Gretchen Talley Park in Tracy around 9 pm on August 25 while he was on his evening walk. He died from his injuries.

Anthony Kreiter-Rhoads of Tracy was arrested Saturday and charged with homicide in the death of Singh.

U.S. gives Tunisia $335 million in financial aid over five years

TUNIS, Aug 31 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United States has agreed to give Tunisia financial aid worth $335 million over five years to support its democratic transition, the Tunisian Development and International Cooperation‮ ‬Ministry said.

The aid will be financed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

“Aid will fund projects that encourage private initiative, create new employment opportunities for young people, and improve governance towards supporting democratic transition”, the ministry said in a statement.

A whitist terrorist has killed 5 and possibly injured 21 near the cities of Odessa and Midland in Texas on Saturday. One of the victims was a child under the age of two, and at least three police officers were among those shot.

According to Insider, deadly shooting spree began near the cities of Odessa and Midland when a state trooper pulled over a motorist for failing to signal during a left turn, the Odessa Police said.

Trump’s 15% tariffs on $112B in Chinese goods take effect

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration’s latest round of tariffs on Chinese imports took effect early Sunday, potentially raising prices Americans pay for some clothes, shoes, sporting goods and other consumer goods in advance of the holiday shopping season.

The 15% taxes apply to about $112 billion of Chinese imports. All told, more than two-thirds of the consumer goods the United States imports from China now face higher taxes. The administration had largely avoided hitting consumer items in its earlier rounds of tariff hikes.

U.S. mass killings reach total for all of 2018

A database shows that the West Texas shooting brings the number of mass killings in the U.S. so far this year to 25, which is as many mass killings as in all of 2018.

The AP/USATODAY/Northeastern University mass murder database also shows that depending on whether the suspect killed in West Texas is included among the five people dead Saturday, the total of victims so far this year in the U.S. either equals all of last year at 140 or falls one short at 139.

U.S. imposes sanctions on people, firms it says helped North Korea evade sanctions

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has imposed sanctions on two people and three firms and has identified a blocked ship that it says helped North Korea evade sanctions, the Treasury Department said on Friday.

The sanctions target a shipping network that the Treasury Department says engaged in ship-to-ship oil transfers with North Korea to help Pyongyang circumvent sanctions imposed by the United Nations.
