Trump warns any conflict with Iran 'wouldn't last long'

26 June 2019; AFP: President Donald Trump said Wednesday he does not want a war with Iran but warned that if fighting does break out, it "wouldn't last very long," even as Iran's president tried to tamp down soaring tensions.

Trump also hinted that any conflict would be waged with air strikes, saying there would be no US boots on the ground.

US FAA: Boeing must address new issue on 737 MAX

27 June 2019; AFP: US regulators said Wednesday Boeing must address a new "potential risk" in the Boeing 737 MAX, further clouding the timeframe for resuming service on the planes after two deadly crashes.

The issue, which surfaced during FAA simulator testing, concerns the ability of pilots to quickly reassert control of the plane if an automated flight handling system pushes the plane downward, said a person familiar with the matter.

'Baby India': video shows newborn found in plastic bag

27 June 2019; AFP: Police in the US state of Georgia have released a poignant video of officers finding an abandoned newborn girl inside a plastic bag, as part of their efforts to find the child's mother.

The video, recorded on an officer's body camera and made public on Tuesday, shows sheriff's deputies in Cummings, Georgia discovering the infant tied up in a bag and left by a roadside the night of June 6.

Chairing the commemoration, UN General Assembly President Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces praised the 50 founders of the world body as hard-headed leaders, "who weighed the downsides of compromises against the benefits of cooperation and the heavy cost of war."

Apple buys more self-driving car technology in latest deal

CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — Apple has bought a struggling self-driving car startup as the iPhone maker continues to explore the potential market for robotic vehicles, despite recently curtailing its work on the technology.

The Cupertino, California, company confirmed its acquisition of Drive.ai Wednesday without disclosing the price. A recent filing with California labor regulators disclosed that Drive.ai planned to close its doors this Friday, laying off 90 workers .

Trump: China needs to reach a trade deal more than he does

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he’s under little pressure to reach a trade deal with China when he meets late this week with President Xi Jinping and is prepared to impose further tariffs on Chinese imports.

“The Chinese economy’s going down the tubes,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business Network. “They want to make a deal more than I do.”
