Arab League, UN, EU and AU demand foreign forces leave Libya

UNITED NATIONS, April 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Arab League, United Nations, European Union and the African Union demanded an immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya.

In a statement after a videoconference by its leaders, the so-called “Libya Quartet” demanded “full compliance with the arms embargo and the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the entirety of Libya’s territory.”

UN seeks nearly US$30 million in volcano aid for St Vincent

UNITED NATIONS, April 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United Nations launched an appeal for donations of more than US$29 million to help Saint Vincent and the Grenadines following several devastating volcanic eruptions that have turned the landscape of the Caribbean nation “apocalyptic”.

The La Soufriere volcano erupted for the first time in 40 years on Apr 9. Eruptions have continued to occur daily, with ash clouds covering the country and reaching surrounding islands.

UN envoy to hold "sideline" meetings ahead of ASEAN summit on Myanmar

Christine Schraner Burgener will not be attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders' summit on Saturday but aimed to hold meetings on the sidelines of the event, the sources said.

USA: Columbus police officer shoots, kills girl holding knife

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police shot and killed a teenage girl Tuesday afternoon in Columbus just as the verdict was being announced in the trial for the killing of George Floyd.

Police showed bodycam footage Tuesday night at a news conference of the officer shooting the girl, who was Black, as she appeared to attempt to stab two people with a knife.

A black-handled blade resembling a kitchen knife or steak knife appeared to be lying on the sidewalk next to her immediately after she was shot and fell.

Biden to America after Floyd verdict: ‘We can’t stop here’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden said the conviction of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd “can be a giant step forward” for the nation in the fight against systemic racism. But he declared that “it’s not enough.”

Biden spoke Tuesday from the White House hours after the verdict alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, with the pair saying the country’s work is far from finished with the verdict.

“We can’t stop here,” Biden declared.

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 20 (APP): Pakistan has called for flexibility to achieve the required consensus among all United Nations’ member states to break the impasse in the long-running negotiations to restructure the UN Security Council.

“The principle and the single most important requirement is flexibility on part of all groups and all member states, to try to accommodate each others’ positions,” Ambassador Munir Akram said, as the Inter-Governmental Negotiations (IGN) aimed at making the 15-member Council more effective, representative and accountable, resumed on Monday.
