NATO: Russia misleads world on troop movements near Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — NATO allies accused Russia of misleading the world by saying it was returning some troops to bases, reporting that Moscow has instead added as many as 7,000 more forces near its tense border with Ukraine. The alliance warned Thursday that the buildup has only strengthened its resolve.

Ukraine shows unity as West sees no sign of Russian pullback

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainians defied pressure from Moscow with a national show of flag-waving unity Wednesday, while the West warned that it saw no sign of a promised pullback of Russian troops from Ukraine’s borders despite Kremlin declarations of a withdrawal.

While a feared Russian invasion of Ukraine on Wednesday did not materialize, the United States and its allies maintain that the threat remains strong, with Europe’s security and economic stability in the balance.

Ukrainian, U.S. Presidents Discuss Security Situation Over Phone

KIEV, Feb 14 (NNN-XINHUA) – Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, and U.S. President, Joe Biden, held a telephone conversation yesterday, to discuss the security situation around Ukraine.

Zelensky and Biden exchanged information and discussed ways of de-escalation, said a statement on the Ukrainian presidential website. The parties also discussed the issue of increasing Ukraine’s financial and energy stability amid the crisis.

Zelensky stressed that, Kiev understands all current risks and is ready for “any developments.”

Ukraine's UIA loses insurance cover for some planes in Ukrainian airspace

KYIV, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Ukraine's biggest airline said on Monday that its insurers had terminated cover for at least some of its aircraft on flights in Ukrainian airspace, as Russia masses a huge military force on the country's border.

Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) said it had received the notification from its insurers as experts said more airlines were expected to avoid Ukraine's airspace following a U.S. warning that Moscow could invade its neighbour any time.

Ukraine president’s ratings fall as crisis with Russia brews

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — As a political novice making an unlikely run to be Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed to reach out to Russia-backed rebels in the east who were fighting Ukrainian forces and make strides toward resolving the conflict. The assurances contributed to his landslide victory in 2019.

But after 2½ years in office, Zelenskyy is watching his once-enormous support dissolve as Ukraine stands on what many fear is the verge of a Russian invasion that would not only take the rebel regions but possibly the rest of the country.

UAE, Kuwait, Iraq urge nationals to leave Ukraine amid tension

14 Feb 2022; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and Iraq on Saturday advised their nationals against travelling to Ukraine as tension continues to escalate between Russia and the West.

On Twitter, the UAE Embassy in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv urged its citizens to postpone any travel to Ukraine amid fear of a possible Russian invasion.

Ukraine refutes reports of entry ban for Russian citizens

KIEV, February 13. /TASS/: The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has branded as rumors the reports that Russian citizens are no longer allowed to enter Ukraine.

"There’s Ukrainian legislation regulating the crossing of the state border and border guards closely observe it," the service’s spokesman, Andrey Demchenko, told Ukraine’s Telegraf.

Dutch airline KLM - part of Air France (AIRF.PA) - said it would stop flying to Ukraine and Germany's Lufthansa (LHAG.DE) said it was considering suspending flights, as a local newspaper, Ukrayinska Pravda, said in an unconfirmed report that the government might discuss the air traffic issue on Sunday.
