US lifts sanctions off ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda

06 Apr 2021; MEMO: The United States on Friday lifted sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Fatou Bensouda that drew international criticism after they were imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump, Reuters reported.

The move, announced by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, lifts sanctions imposed on Bensouda over her investigation into whether American forces committed war crimes in Afghanistan.

Biden confident that higher corporate tax will not drive companies out of US

Washington, Apr 6 (PTI) US President Joe Biden has exuded confidence that his proposal to hike the corporate tax is unlikely to drive companies out of the country.

Biden made the comments on Monday while talking to reporters on the South lawns of the White House as he arrived from his weekend stay at Camp David.

Not at all, Biden said, asserting that there is no evidence of that.

US reaffirms position that West Bank is occupied territory

02 Apr 2021; MEMO: The US State Department has reaffirmed its position which considers the West Bank as territory occupied by Israel.

"It is a historical fact that Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights after the 1967 War," State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters on Wednesday.

The clarification came after the Department published its annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2020.

US to weigh sanctions after Iran, China ink $400bn deal

29 Mar 2021; MEMO: The US said on Monday it will evaluate a just signed $400 billion investment deal China struck with Iran over the weekend to see whether it will trigger sanctions under American law, Anadolu Agency reported.

"We of course will take a look and ensure that any sanctions that need to be implemented would be as it relates to this package, but we haven't looked at the specific agreement yet at this point in time," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters.

Digital tax: USTR proposes retaliatory trade actions against India

Washington/New Delhi, Mar 27 (PTI) The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has proposed retaliatory trade actions against India and certain other countries that have imposed or are considering equalisation levy/digital services tax on e-commerce companies.

It has issued notices seeking public comments on proposed trade actions against six countries, including India.
