Bolivian President to attend Brics Summit in South Africa

LA PAZ, Aug 1 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Bolivian President Luis Arce will participate in the next Brics Summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta confirmed at a press conference.

His presence in the Brics forum in South Africa from August 22 to 24, in compliance with an invitation from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, will put Bolivia back on the global scene, the foreign minister noted.

Bolivian gas production and exports forecasted to drop dramatically by 2030 due to absence of new discoveries

LA PAZ, July 27 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Bolivia may shift from being an exporter of natural gas to Brazil and Argentina to becoming an importer by 2030.

A report by British energy consultancy Wood Mackenzie indicates that Bolivia’s natural gas production will decline faster than expected. The reason is the aging of the country’s production fields and the absence of new discoveries.

According to the study, Bolivia’s natural gas production is expected to fall from 39 million cubic meters per day in 2022 to 11 million m³/day in 2030.

LA PAZ, July 1 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Bolivia’s state-owned company Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB) signed two separate agreements whereby Chinese and Russian companies will invest over US$1.4 billion to build two industrial complexes for the production of lithium carbonate, it was reported in La Paz.

China’s Citic Guoan and Russia’s Uranium One Group — both with a major government stake — will partner with YLB to build two lithium carbonate processing plants, President Luis Arce announced.

Bolivian president replaces ministers of mining, health

LA PAZ, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian President Luis Arce appointed new health and mining ministers Friday, urging them to "step on the accelerator" to meet planned goals.

Replacing Jeyson Auza Pinto as the new Minister of Health and Sports, Maria Renee Castro served as Deputy Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance and Traditional Medicine and director of the National Institute of Health Laboratories.

Bolivian region declares red alert for dengue fever

LA PAZ, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Health authorities in the eastern Bolivian department of Santa Cruz on Thursday declared a "red alert" for dengue fever due to an alarming rise in cases and four deaths from the disease this year.

Carlos Hurtado, head of epidemiology of the department's health services, told the media that Bolivia would strengthen disease surveillance, guarantee treatment for patients and destroy mosquito breeding sites.

"Comments of this type are not appropriate in international relations. Relations between states are carried out based on the principle of mutual respect and non-interference. It can be understood from that perspective that this tweet can be interpreted as interference," Mayta told a press conference in La Paz on Friday.

Bolivia: Opposition blockades push for leader’s release

SAN CARLOS, Bolivia (AP) — Outside Santa Cruz, Bolivia’s most populous city, the highway starts to resemble a parking lot with dozens of cargo-laden trucks stopped in a long line as exhausted-looking drivers wait by the side of the road. Wet clothing hangs from the windows of some trucks.

The vehicles are blocked by large mounds of sand piled on the highway as it passes through the town of San Carlos, 68 miles (110 kilometers) from Santa Cruz. No cars or trucks pass the mounds, only motorcycles transporting people.

Bolivia charges key opposition leader with ‘terrorism

LA PAZ, Dec 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Bolivian police arrested Luis Fernando Camacho, the governor of the economic powerhouse Santa Cruz region, on “terrorism” charges, setting off street clashes between his supporters and security forces.

“We inform the Bolivian people that the Bolivian police executed an arrest warrant against Luis Fernando Camacho,” Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo said, adding that Camacho was flown to La Paz, the administrative capital, for questioning.

Bolivia and Venezuela strengthen diplomatic ties

LA PAZ, Sept 30 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Bolivian Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta agreed to strengthen diplomatic ties at the highest level during talks held in Caracas, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry’s web portal reported.

During his stay in Venezuela, Mayta met with the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, with whom he evaluated the strategic cooperation agenda with issues of common interest.

The two countries have strategic alliances in the commercial, energy, agri-food and science and technology spheres.
