Interstate travel among activities allowed with start of RMCO Wednesday

PUTRAJAYA, June 7 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Interstate travel will be allowed beginning this Wednesday, with the exception of areas declared under enhanced movement control order (EMCO), Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

In announcing the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to replace the Conditional MCO, which will end on Tuesday, Muhyiddin said this will be among the restrictions to be lifted while the country goes through the COVID-19 recovery phase.

The RMCO will see more relaxed conditions from June 10 until August 31, the Prime Minister said.

UK travel quarantine rules come into effect

LONDON, June 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — New rules requiring all people arriving in the UK to self-isolate for 14 days have come into effect.

Those arriving by plane, ferry or train – including UK nationals – will have to provide an address where they will self-isolate and face fines of up to £1,000 if they do not follow the rules.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the laws were designed “to prevent a second wave” of coronavirus.

But some industries have warned they will be severely impacted by the rules.

540 New COVID-19 Cases Reported In UAE, 38,808 In Total

DUBAI, June 8 (NNN-WAM) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Sunday announced 540 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 38,808.

UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention, said in a statement that, the new cases of many nationalities are all in a stable condition and receiving medical treatment.

According to the ministry, 745 more patients have made full recovery from the virus, taking the tally of recoveries to 21,806.

The ministry also confirmed one more death, pushing the country’s death toll to 276.

Kenya extends corona lockdown by 30 days

NAIROBI, June 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta has extended a nationwide overnight curfew by another 30 days after warning that ending it risked tens of thousands of additional coronavirus deaths.

But the nightly curfew will be three hours shorter, running from 21:00 to 04:00, and several areas that had been under lockdown will now reopen.

South Sudan vice-president and wife ‘recovers from coronavirus’

JUBA, June 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — South Sudan’s First Vice-President Riek Machar and his wife, Defence Minister Angelina Teny, have recovered from Covid-19.

The two tested positive for Coronavirus three weeks ago.

The Sudan Tribune newspaper quoted a statement from Machar’s office as saying that he had been discharged on Saturday “having fully recovered”.

Poland reports virus spike linked to a southern coal mine

WARSAW, June 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Poland saw a record spike in new confirmed coronavirus cases over the weekend, with most of the hundreds of infections reported by the health ministry linked to a coal mine in the country’s south.

The 1,151 new cases — 576 of them registered Saturday and 575 on Sunday — marked the EU country’s highest consecutive two-day total thus far.

Covid-19: Worldwide infections near seven million

PARIS, June 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus worldwide is now above 6.9 million, according to latest figures collated by Johns Hopkins University.

The US has by far the largest number of cases, accounting for almost 30% of the global total. It also has the world’s highest death toll, followed by the UK and Brazil.

China To Make COVID-19 Vaccine Global Public Good: Official

BEIJING, June 8 (NNN-XINHUA) – China will make its COVID-19 vaccine a global public good, when it is ready for application, after successful research and clinical trials, a senior Chinese official said, Sunday.

Wang Zhigang, minister of science and technology, said in Beijing that, international cooperation should be strengthened in vaccine development, clinical trials and application.

Vaccine development should focus on ensuring safety, effectiveness, and accessibility, Wang said.

New Zealand Has No New COVID-19 Case For The Past 16 Days

WELLINGTON, June 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) – New Zealand reported no new case of COVID-19 for 16 consecutive days, said a statement by the Ministry of Health today.

The combined number of confirmed and probable cases stays at 1,504, of which 1,154 are confirmed, it said.

New Zealand currently has 1,481 people reported as having recovered from COVID-19, unchanged from Saturday. There is only one case remaining active in the country.

There is no hospital-level care. The death toll remained at 22. The total number of tests completed to date is 294,048, an increase of 2,054.
