Malaysia begins CMCO, most businesses to operate subject to conditions

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Today, Malaysia will begin its Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) with almost all economic and business sectors allowed to reopen, subject to conditions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities.

COVID-19 Cases In Brazil Top 100,000, With 7,025 Deaths

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 4 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The Brazilian Ministry of Health, reported on Sunday that, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has exceeded 100,000, with 7,025 deaths.

According to the latest epidemiological data, the virus has infected 101,147 people and left 7,025 dead.

Over the last 24 hours, there have been 4,588 new confirmed cases, and 275 new deaths.

The fatality rate in Brazil is currently 6.9 percent.

Japan To Restart Some Public Facilities After State Of Emergency Extended

TOKYO, May 4 (NNN-NHK) – Japan will restart parks, museums, libraries and some other public facilities, after a nationwide state of emergency is expected to be extended, a senior government official said on Sunday.

Japanese Economic Revitalisation Minister, Yasutoshi Nishimura, told a press conference that the government will allow those facilities to reopen, if sufficient measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are put in place, even in areas with a relatively high number of infections.

New Zealand Reports No New COVID-19 Case For First Time

WELLINGTON, May 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) – New Zealand reported no new COVID-19 case over the past 24 hours, the first time in 49 days, with the total number of infections staying at 1,487, the Ministry of Health said today (Monday).

Director-General of Health, Ashley Bloomfield, told a press conference that, one probable case has been reclassified as confirmed, so the total case number remained unchanged.

The death toll stood at 20, Bloomfield said, adding, 1,276 cases have now recovered, and currently four people are in hospital, with none in ICU.

Turkey’s Biggest City Istanbul Under Lock-down Amid COVD-19

Trump says up to 100,000 Americans may die from coronavirus

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he now believes as many as 100,000 Americans could die in the coronavirus pandemic, after the death toll passed his earlier estimates, but said he was confident a vaccine would be developed by the year’s end.

Trump alternated during a two-hour virtual town hall broadcast by FOX News between forecasting a rapid recovery for the U.S. economy and casting blame for the pandemic’s spread on China, where the disease is believed to have originated.

India: Shops to open from 7 am to 7 pm in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, May 2 (PTI) In a relaxation for city residents, the UT Chandigarh administration on Saturday allowed opening of shops from 7 am to 7 pm with effect from May 4 in non-containment zone areas.

The administration also allowed residents to use their vehicles to come to the markets without passes, an official said.

Besides, the city administration has also decided to lift curfew on May 3 midnight but impose lockdown till May 17.

Indian Railways runs Shramik Special trains to ferry migrants home

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) The railways on Saturday ran 10 trains to ferry home to Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar nearly 10,000 migrants from eight states, a senior official said.

He said the trains were planned on the request of these eight states -- Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

India: 5,105 prisoners released on bail in Maharashtra

Mumbai, May 2 (PTI) The prisons department of Maharashtra has released more than 5,000 inmates from various prisons of the state till Saturday, an official said.

To prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in overcrowded jails, the prisons department is releasing those inmates who are serving sentences of less than seven years on bail, he said.
