Indian Govt tightens export ban norms for anti-malarial drug hydroxycloroquine

New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) The government has tightened the export ban norms on anti-malarial drug hydroxycloroquine by including special economic zones (SEZs) under its prohibition ambit to ensure there is no shortfall during Covid-19 crisis.

The drug is also not allowed to be shipped by export oriented units (EOUs) or under any export promotion scheme.

About 40,000 Indian seafarers stranded across globe on account of lockdown: Maritime bodies

New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) About 40,000 crew and seafarers stranded on cargo and cruise vessels across the globe are awaiting return to Indian shores, with the government assuring to extend help once the nationwide lockdown on account of coronavrius outbreak is lifted, maritime bodies have said.

There are about 15,000 seafarers onboard about 500 cargo vessels across the globe, and another 25,000 on cruise ships.

Coronavirus pandemic 'amplifying' poverty in UK

London, Apr 5 (AFP/PTI) The coronavirus pandemic is increasing poverty in Britain, where levels are already high after a decade of austerity triggered by the global financial crisis, according to experts.

Official data shows that more than 14 million people in the UK are classed as living in poverty, or nearly one-quarter of the population.

China reports 30 new coronavirus cases; nine districts in Wuhan classified as low-risk'

Beijing, Apr 5 (PTI) China has reported 30 new cases of the novel coronavirus, including five locally transmitted infections, even as nine of the 13 administrative districts of virus-hit Wuhan city were declared low-risk areas' signifying a gradual return to normalcy, officials said on Sunday.

China's National Health Commission (NHC) in its daily report said other than the 30 new confirmed COVID-19 cases reported in the mainland on Saturday, 47 new asymptomatic cases were also reported.

India: Rahul Gandhi sends sanitizers, masks, soaps to Amethi

Amethi (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sent 12,000 sanitizers, 20,000 face masks and 10,000 soaps for distribution among the people of Amethi, a party leader said on Saturday.

District unit president of the Congress, Pradeep Singhal said Gandhi has instructed to supply these items especially to those who are in the forefront of the fight against coronavirus.

India: 145 new coronavirus cases in Maha, total 635; six deaths

Mumbai, Apr 4 (PTI) As many as 145 persons were confirmed to have coronavirus infection in Maharashtra on Saturday, taking the number of patients to 635, an official statement said.

A statement released by the Public Health Department said most of these persons were tested by private laboratories over the last few days, and the results were validated by government labs on Saturday.

India: 14 new COVID-19 cases in Guj; tally jumps to 122

Ahmedabad, Apr 5 (PTI) The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat has jumped to 122 with 14 new patients being reported from the state, an official said on Sunday.

Out of the 14 new cases, 10 have a direct or indirect link to the religious congregation organised by Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in Delhi last month, Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi said.

Bahraini Ministry Closes Pharmacy For Hiking Prices Of Sanitisers

MANAMA, Apr 5 (NNN-BNA) – The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, closes a pharmacy for hiking the prices of sanitisers, profiting from the exceptional conditions, resulting from the COVID-19.

The pharmacy, which is located in the area of Riffa, was found in breach of Law 35 of 2019, on consumer protection, said the ministry.

Uganda Starts Relief Food Distribution For Vulnerable People Amid COVID-19 Lockdown

KAMPALA, Apr 5 (NNN-XINHUA) – Uganda, on Saturday, started relief food distribution to about 1.5 million urban poor, who are affected by the lock-down, as a measure to contain the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, flagged off the door-to-door food distribution, which started in Bwaise, a suburb in the capital Kampala.

“We have today flagged off a government relief food distribution programme, to vulnerable individuals who have been affected by the lock-down measures,” said Rugunda.
