UK deaths from corona outbreak climb to 463

LONDON, March 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The number of coronavirus deaths in the United Kingdom rose to 463 as of Wednesday from 422 on Tuesday, the British government said.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the UK were at 9,529 as of Wednesday, compared to 8,077 cases as of Tuesday, the statement added.

The government is anticipating a peaking of cases in Britain in the coming weeks and has appealed to manufacturers to supply the National Health Service with the appropriate requirements.

Pentagon orders halt to all overseas movement for US forces for up to 60 days

WASHINGTON, March 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Defence Secretary Mark Esper has issued a stop movement order to the US military halting all travel and movement abroad for up to 60 days in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus through the ranks.

Esper said in an interview that the order applied to all US forces, civilian personnel and families, but noted that there would be some exceptions.

“The purpose is to make sure that we’re not bringing the virus back home, infecting others, that we’re not spreading it around the military,” Esper said.

Australian Army Reservists Called On For COVID-19 Support

CANBERRA, Mar 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The Australian Army is preparing to deploy reservists to assist with the Australian Defence Force’s response to COVID-19.

The Guardian Australia, today published an email sent by Carmen Sieger, the acting director of the directorate of contingent workforce management army, earlier in Mar, in which Sieger called on reservists for help, if they had the willingness and capacity for work “likely to result from our current environment.”

It would be the second time in 2020. reservists will be deployed in response to the crisis.

Cruise Ships Told To Leave Australian Waters

SYDNEY, Mar 26 (NNN-BNA) – Two cruise ships, off the coast of Western Australia, have been told to “immediately” leave Australian waters, after the country’s worst outbreak of the COVID-19 was traced to a cruise liner that docked at Sydney Harbour last week. Cruise ships have become a flash point for the epidemic in Australia after 147 of 2,700 passengers, who disembarked from the Ruby Princess cruise ship in Sydney, later tested positive for COVID-19.

Japan To Set Up COVID-19 Task Force; No Emergency Now

TOKYO, Mar 26 (NNN-NHK) – Japan will set up a new COVID-19 task force, the government said today, as it warned of a high risk of a widespread of the virus, but the economy minister said, the government was not thinking of declaring a state of emergency now.

Japan had 1,313 domestic cases of COVID_19, as of Thursday morning, separate from 712 from a cruise ship that was moored near Tokyo last month. There have been 45 domestic deaths and 10 from the cruise ship.

Covid-19: More than 3 billion told to stay home worldwide as death toll passes 20,000

PARIS, March 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — More than three billion people have been asked to stay at home in almost 70 countries and territories as governments battle the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe.

Most of the countries concerned, including Argentina, Britain, France, India and Italy as well as many US states, have imposed mandatory lockdown measures. Others have introduced curfews, quarantines and other social distancing recommendations.

Iran: Coronavirus casualties decline

25 Mar 2020; MEMO: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said yesterday that the number of deaths and cases who tested positive for coronavirus in the country are declining, Quds Press reported.

His remarks came during a meeting with the National Committee Against Coronavirus held in Tehran.

Rouhani said that the number of patients admitted to hospital for coronavirus are declining and that “this is happy news.”

Israel reports third coronavirus death

25 Mar 2020; MEMO: Israeli health officials reported a third death from the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.

An Israeli male, 87, suffering from chronic disease died at Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in Jerusalem.

Earlier Tuesday, officials reported a second death when a 67-year-old woman, who had “a serious preexisting medical condition,” died at the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon.

Infections rose to 1,656 after 214 new cases were detected Tuesday, according to officials.

India: UP govt declares corona a state disaster

Lucknow, Mar 24 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday declared the coronavirus situation a state disaster, a senior official said here.

"The state government has declared Corona situation as a state disaster relaxing procurement procedures for emergency medical equipment and corona-related medical consumables," the official said.

Initially, this relaxation is for a month, he added.

A formal Government Order (GO) has been issued in this regard, he said.

Indian Govt bans export of anti-malarial drug hydroxycloroquine

New Delhi, Mar 25 (PTI) Amid coronavirus outbreak, the government on Wednesday banned export of anti-malarial drug hydroxycloroquine with immediate effect to ensure sufficient availability of the medicine in the domestic market.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Balram Bhargava had on Monday recommended the use of hydroxychloroquine for treating healthcare workers handling suspected or confirmed coronavirus cases and also the asymptomatic household contacts of the lab-confirmed cases.
