India: Uttar Pradesh CM tests positive for COVID-19

Lucknow, Apr 14 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.

He had on Tuesday isolated himself after some officials in his contact tested positive for coronavirus.

"After initial symptoms, I got myself tested. My report is positive. I am in self-isolation and following doctors advice. I am doing all the works virtually," Adityanath tweeted from his official Twitter handle.

Several U.S. states shut down Johnson & Johnson vaccine sites after adverse reactions reported

WASHINGTON, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Several states in the United States have temporarily shut down some vaccine sites after people suffered adverse reactions to the shot.

A total of 18 people in North Carolina reported side effects, while 11 people in Colorado reacted to the shot with symptoms ranging from dizziness, nausea and fainting, according to media reports.

Georgia was the third U.S. state to temporarily shut down a vaccine site following North Carolina and Colorado, after eight people suffered adverse reactions following vaccination.

India to approve coronavirus shots green-lit by WHO, others

NEW DELHI (AP) — India said Tuesday that it will approve the use of all coronavirus vaccines that have been given an emergency nod by the World Health Organization or regulators in the United States, Europe, Britain or Japan.

India’s Health Ministry said the decision was aimed at hastening the use of shots made in other countries and expanding the “basket of vaccines” available for domestic use. The country of almost 1.4 billion people is seeing a crippling surge of infections that is threatening to overwhelm hospitals in hard-hit cities.

Russia suspends flights to Turkey until June 1

12 Apr 2021; MEMO: Russia is temporarily suspending regular and charter flights with Turkey, Moscow announced Monday, Anadolu Agency reported.

The suspension over COVID-19 concerns will last from April 15 to June 1, said Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.

Flights will resume if developments in the pandemic show a positive trend, she added, speaking at a video conference with other members of the government,

India: Russia's Sputnik vaccine approved for emergency use: Health ministry

New Delhi, Apr 13 (PTI) India's drug regulator has granted permission for restricted emergency use of the Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V with certain conditions, the Union Health Ministry announced on Tuesday, while stating that Dr Reddy's Laboratories will import the vaccine for use in the country.

The approval by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) paves the way for a third vaccine to be available in the country.

India to produce 850 mn of Russian Sputnik V vaccine annually

New Delhi, Apr 13 (PTI) The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has said more than 850 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine are going to be produced annually in India, which has also given approval for the emergency use of the vaccine against coronavirus infections in the country.

India: Union minister Sanjeev Balyan tests positive for COVID-19

Muzaffarnagar, Apr 12 (PTI) Union minister Sanjeev Balyan said he has tested positive for coronavirus following which he has isolated himself.

In a tweet on Sunday night, he said, "I got tested for COVID-19 after showing some symptoms while campaigning for West Bengal elections. The report is positive and I have isolated myself."

Balyan requested those who came in contact with him in the last few days to get themselves tested for the virus.

India: Ten states show steep rise in daily COVID-19 cases

New Delhi, Apr 12 (PTI) Ten states -- Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan have shown a steep rise in the daily COVID-19 cases accounting for 83.02 per cent of the new infections, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.

India's daily cases continue to rise and 1,68,912 fresh coronavirus infections were registered in a span of 24 hours, the highest single-day rise since the outbreak of the pandemic.

India: 1.2 million Covid cases in a day, the highest single-day rise

New Delhi, Apr 12 (PTI) India hit a new coronavirus infection record with 168,912 new cases, the highest single-day rise so far, taking the total tally of cases to 13,527,717, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The national COVID-19 recovery rate has fallen below 90 per cent.

The active cases have surpassed the 12-lakh mark, while the death toll increased to 170,179 with 904 daily new fatalities, the highest since October 18, 2020, the data updated at 8 am showed.
